Season 1 Episode 4 “A new villain with an eye for all things that sparkle drops in on the city; Kate attempts to find a balance between her personal life and her new role as Gotham’s guardian; Luke continues to fine-tune Batwoman’s arsenal of weapons.”
What I Liked
1. The Martha Wayne name drops about the pearls was a nice touch. Showing especially how important the pearl necklace is, and always has been during the lore. Mentioning how Bruce lost it, and paid so much to get it back proves that.
2. The second batarang throw was a lot better! You will understand just what I mean as you read through the review.
What I Disliked
1. Alice was quite the enjoyable villain for the first couple episodes, however now she feels extremely lacklustre. She just looks, and feels weak. She was leaving destructive impacts the first two episodes, now she’s making threats which are just so poor.
Even later in the episode when she uses hedge clippers to cut a random unknown guys finger off, it was just so generic. She brings nothing to the table. She’s awfully forgettable. If Batwoman continues after the first season, I can’t see her living long in the memory. I’m praying this is just a half a season thing.
2. Second dislike in very short notice. That fight was terrible between Kate and the fake Catwoman. The batarang throw just felt, and looked fake. It literally threw in slow motion, yet it was real time. I could throw a batarang faster than she did there. It may not be a big of a difference for some people, but this scene was atrocious.
3. Sophie, and Kate. Can it stop now? Personally, it’s an ark I only cared for the first episode. To be honest, I prefer the new girl Kate is dating. It just makes more sense. Even if it did end.
4. That explosive pearl necklace was just, oh dear. Those “explosions” (if you could call it that) were laughable. Kevin McCallister made better explosions in Home Alone 1. CW can do better than this.
Favourite Moments
1. After Batwoman saved the little girl from the firecracker explosions, the fake Catwoman stupidly attempts to scale a building right in front of her. The reason why it’s on my favourite moments list, is because of how smooth Kate brought her back down.
2. A huge reveal towards the end of the episode. Catherine paid the DNA analyst to show that bone fragments were found for Elizabeth. She explains this to Jacob, which then creates a divide between the married couple.
The Verdict
A very poor episode. Perhaps one of the worst of the season thus far. It had no relevance, with a severe lack of interest. The villains were cringeworthy, the CGI was abysmal throughout. It just rocked me it could get this bad. I have high hopes because of the strong start, but this was just weak.
