The Flash “A Flash Of Lightning” Review

Season 6 Episode 2 “Faced with the news of his impending death, Barry’s resiliency suffers as he struggles to fight fate; Cecile’s career as a D.A. conflicts with her identity when she crosses paths with a villainous meta-human.”

What Was Good?

1. The episode starts off inside the time vault with Barry and Iris talking about the upcoming crisis. Iris tells Barry that they’ve changed the future news article once they can do it again. Barry decides to go get a second opinion so he makes a plan with Iris to run to the day after he disappears but a barrier blocked him from running to it and results in Barry getting a cut on his leg.. not just any cut but an anti-matter cut. This surprised me because this is the official first time seeing anything to do with the Anti-Monitor appear in any Arrowverse show.

2. Ramsey seems to be dealing with the effects of the cure he took in the season premiere. We see him lose control of his abilities and kill someone who he was buying more dark matter from. From the teaser for next episode it seems like Ramsey is a unknown villain and that he doesn’t know that he’s a villain yet although he did create a monster.

3. Now for something that a lot of Flash fans have wanted for a few seasons now… Smart Barry. Barry has created a mobile Gideon which helps in when time traveling and in fights with other meta’s. I’m so happy we are finally getting to see Barry use his intellect.

4. Barry comes back to Earth-1 and is healing up from what happened with Jay on Earth-2. He’s still reeling from what he saw and Iris tries to comfort him but he tells her that the only timeline where everyone survives is the one where he sacrifices himself. Later on Joe comes to see Iris but ends up giving Barry his seasonly motivational speech. Joe on the show is wrote so well and it’s just incredible to see! Jesse L. Martin is such a great actor.

What Was Bad?

1. Barry goes to Earth-2 to see Jay and speak to him about finding a way to go past the barrier. Jay informs Barry about the Crisis and what he’s found out. We come to find out that Jay is losing his speed and needed a Doctor to help him with it and he fell in love with this Doctor and it’s the doppelganger of Barry’s mother. This scene was important for multiple reasons, the crisis, Barry seeing a version of his mother again and Jay showed Barry a chart of what will happen and has happened previously.. one thing on the chart showed us what will happen in the Arrow premiere.

Holy Shit Moment

1. Barry, Jay and Joan do a experiment with Barry where his mind see’s billions of timelines one of which is seeing Ralph, Frost, Vibe and Iris die in the upcoming Crisis. He also see’s his death as well which is ripped straight from the comic. This for me was such a powerful scene and such a huge tease to what’s coming.

2. The villain of the episode was actually really decent as well. The villain was called Ultraviolet and she managed to take down CCPD on her own. I personally think she was working for a organization called Black Hole from the comics.

The Verdict

I have no words for how this episode was. From the Crisis teases to seeing Barry die to even seeing the villain of the episode, everything was just really decent. The show showed us The Flash’s death like in the Crisis On Infinite Earths comic.
