While many people love the X-Men movies, many also hate the timeline of things because of retcons, alternate timelines, and things that just don’t match up between the old X-Men movies and the newer X-Men movies.
When you see people talk about it, it’s typically the usual “timeline” issues and while that is a major factor in the X-Men movie problems, a lot of people seem to pass up on speaking about characters that deserve to be done correctly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I can name 3 to begin with.
3. Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler is 50/50, he fits into that category with Logan because of how he was done. My issue with Nightcrawler is that while we saw him in X2, he was written as this mystery mutant character who had this way with a knife, and while we saw him in Apocalypse he was this quiet yet somewhat funny character.
Both of these versions need to be molded together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Nightcrawler to work within those new movies absolutely. Nightcrawler is one of my favorite characters so to see him done correctly would be really good. Obviously, this will be down to writing and the actor who is cast as him.
2. Iceman
Iceman is a character I fell in love with when I first watched the old X-Men movies, I instantly was drawn to his character, his powers and abilities, and the actor was fantastic. It wasn’t until I began to read the comics and watched a YouTube video about his character to realize just how badly he was dumbed down in the movies.
If you didn’t know, Iceman is an Omega Level mutant. This means he’s on the same level as Professor X, Magneto, and so on. There is only a handful of mutants deemed an “Omega Level” mutant. Now compare that to the movies and you will see just how badly he character was changed. This needs to change for the MCU, Iceman could literally cause on ice age on Earth.
1. Cyclops
Scott Summers is one of my favorite characters in the X-Men. I love him. He’s great, he’s powerful, and he’s a great leader. In the movies, he was pushed aside to make way for Logan which is understandable because he was the focus of those movies and has become more popular because of it.
In the comics Scott is different, while he has self-doubt as a leader, he still is and has been a leader for 60 years. I would like to see this Scott within the MCU, we saw it in the X-Men ’97 series how Scott should be written. I hope they do not focus mainly on Wolverine within the new X-Men movies but share the main spotlight with many mutants not just Scott.
