So every now and again, I scroll through Twitter and I see many tweets about something comic related, something nerdy and it piques my interest. The other day this happened, I scrolled through and saw a tweet about 4 favorite Star Wars scenes which are not Lightsaber duels.
And It got my mind racing for a few days, what exactly are my 4 non-lightsaber duels that have came from the Star Wars universe whether it be live-action or animated?
4. The Chosen One Returns
Darth Vader returns to the lightside, I think this one is a given. I believe any list among the same idea will have this somewhere in there. It’s the moment Anakin truly brings balance to the force, not to mention saving his son’s life in the process.
When you watched the Prequels all the way through, it’s a long journey for Anakin, so watching him eventually end the most successful Sith of all time deserves so much credit. It’s also an emotionally touching moment, I honestly wish I was alive around the time this came out in the cinemas.
3. Chirrut Îmwe Introduction
Leading up to Rogue One and It’s release I didn’t read to much into it or watch many trailers, I went into it completely blind (sorry for the pun with this character) so when I saw Donnie Yen in it, I was amazed. His character was amazing, from start to finish.
His character was a blind character who truly believed in the Force. He believed it that much that he went toe-to-toe with a squadron of Stormtroopers and completely destroyed them with his staff. He also had a good arc towards the end, always seeing good and always believing in the Force.
2. “No, I am your Father!”
Darth Vader reveals to Luke he’s his father. Again, another moment in which Darth Vader just hits that emotional aspect. For me, growing up, I always knew even before watching the movies who Vader was and who Luke was. Unfortunately, I never got to experience that moment as it happened, but it’s still deserving on a high spot on this list.
Luke believes Vader killed his father, by Obi-Wans “semi-truth”. So going through all of that, then for that moment to just come out of nowhere when Vader has Luke completely cornered is just incredible.
1. The War in Solo
Say what you will about Solo but it delivered a scene that we’ve not really had to see in live-action, we’ve had scenes similar in games or animation but never like this in live-action and this is why I rank this scene highly.
In Solo, Han escapes his planet and joins up with the Empire and they stick him in the middle of a war. Throughout this scene, we get to see Generals, Stormtroopers just in a war. It was like Saving Private Ryan met Star Wars. It was literally perfect. It also made me want a focused movie on Stormtroopers in the midst of War.
I think I could go forever typing about scenes that are my favorite which is not lightsaber duels, from Anakin speeding to save his mother to the recent episode of The Mandalorian when Boba Fett returns fully kitted out in his armor and completely destroys the Empire.
Star Wars is the franchise that keeps on giving, it’s close to being up there with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in my opinion. Thank you George Lucas for creating such a unique universe.
