What If We Got A Star Wars Inquisitors Video Game

As huge video games fans, we’re always looking ahead to the next comic book game. In this series, we take a character or a group and try to organize what a video game could look like with this specific character or group. It’s up to you to decide if you think it works or not.

Why this group?

The Inquisitors are Darth Vader’s fierce army of force-wielding users who either came to the Empire willingly or tortured from the Jedi Order into a dark side user. There are at least 11 known Inquisitors. Knowing how secrative Vader is and what plans he had in place, it’s not premature to say there were most likely a few more than that.

The only two occasions we’ve seen the Inquisitors in play are in the animated TV show, Rebels and more recently EA and Respawns Jedi: Fallen Order. Both of these have given us great glimpses of this brutal group but we know fine well there is far more than to them than what we’ve seen.

It brings it back to the good old question that people often ask; “why are we still entertaining this era (between episodes 3 & 4)?” This is why. There is still so much unexplored it’s crazy to think about. Especially when you look at the Legends aspects of things, it’s very difficult to not want to see every single crevice of that, including the Inquisitors.

What type of game would you do?

As there are multiple Inquisitors, some of which are unknown, in this instance I would allow the opportunity to create a character to be built into Inquisitors willingly. This game would be an open-world RPG-style game that allowed you to explore different planets to maintain order throughout the galaxy. The Inquisitors are known for being ruthless, this would allow you the opportunity to decide on that aspect. Do you want to be good? Do you want to be bad? The choice is yours but each choice comes with a consequence.

The game would largely be based on the KOTOR franchise. If you do good deeds, you will find yourself in hot water with the Empire and more terrifyingly, Lord Vader. If you do bad deeds, then your reputation within the Empire will rise. That’s in a nutshell but each decision you make will have an impact. They will also have repercussions based on those specific choices.

The story would surround Vader a lot, serving (or in your choice not serving) his orders. These usually happened to hunt down a surviving Jedi Knight/Master or force-sensitive user from Order 66. There would be around 3-4 prolific Jedi’s you’re ordered to hunt down throughout the entirety of the game, each one coming with their own story, their own traits, and personality to give you the opportunity to make better decisions.

What would the game include?

I’ve already touched base on what the game would include above, but customization would be an absolute must when it comes down to it. One of the many things Jedi: Fallen Order got right was the ability to customize your lightsaber to your exact liking. We know Inquisitors use sabers that spin around, personally, I think they look pathetic… but this is where you would come in, be able to customize that to your exact liking. Even including different colors just to catch surviving Jedi off guard. Depending on your rating, you’ll unlock different combinations based on your interactions and decisions.

As this game would be an open-world RPG, elements of choice would be shown throughout. This would be very similar to the Fallout 3 mechanics where decisions you make base your character. Being good will harm your reputation in the Empire and your loyalty will drop with Vader, but your trust will grow among Jedi, and vice versa. All in all, you’ll start as an Inquisitor but it’s up to you if you want to remain that way or not. You’ll also be able to go on missions alongside fellow Inquisitors if your rating is high enough.

A leveling-up system is also a must. Jedi: Fallen Order did this part well, I would have it similar. The more you level up, the more in tune with the force you become. This will grant you additional health and better abilities.

With video games these days you often don’t get the opportunity to explore much. In Fallen Order, you could visit a few planets but each planet was limited to where you could go. Honestly, I would have this fairly similar but with more planets. In fact, more popular planets including Tattooine where we know Vader hates going. Give us Vader’s Castle as well just for the visually stunning theme it would have. It’s one of the many things Star Wars does so well, they make their created planets so visually impressive.

I’m probably asking for a bit much but a coop drop-in play would be a beautiful feature to have. I wouldn’t make the story too based on it, but you could have some additional interactions. This would add huge layers of replayability into the game. Microtransactions would be a gigantic no-go, but a season pass for DLC would be welcomed.

In regards to the combat system, turn-based, Fallen Order or even an updated Force Awakens style combat would be fine, but it needs to be brutal. If you choose to execute a Jedi (to represent the Empire) then it should be just that. After all, in Legends Darth Vader is known for doing some seriously sadistic stuff.

Is it likely to happen?

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

No. It’s not. To be honest, I think with the Fallen Order sequel coming out soon, it’s almost an impossibility we would ever get an Inquisitors game because of that. Not to mention, I think a lot of developers would rather focus on a game where the money would be.

Would an Inquisitors game make money? Yes. Would it make them 100’s of millions? Probably not. Why? Because there isn’t a lot of casual fans out there that have heard of them which is a shame.
