Why Tobey Maguire Returning For A Logan Style Spider-Man Movie Would Be Perfect

Before Marvel regained the rights back to the Fox characters, Fox made Logan. A nod to the old-man Logan comics which are a fantastic read in their own right. It’s the first time a superhero studio attempted something like this, and it did very well. Logan earned $619,021,436 at the box office according to Box Office Mojo.

This is where this article comes in. My colleague uploaded a meme to Facebook which gave me the inspiration to write this. You can see the meme here;

With the rumors surrounding Spider-Man: No Way Home, this is something that would be interesting. We know Tobey Maguire is rumored to be involved in the movie, reprising his role as Peter Parker (Spider-Man), if he is then this would be perfect.

Since 2002, we’ve had 7 Spider-Man movies, about to be 8 when No Way Home releases on December 17th, but none of them have ever explored an older Peter Parker. The closest we’ve come to that is in the Insomniac Spider-Man games. It simply hasn’t been explored but there’s so much to explore.

Tobey Maguire is 46 years old which would fit in perfectly with the story. This would be set around 20 years after the events of Spider-Man 3 in the same universe. The meme above suggests not to tie into a universe but it would be a lot more impacting if it was. If Miles Morales isn’t cast in No Way Home then this could be a perfect introduction to the character considering the multiverse will be a key point moving forward in the MCU and Sonyverse.

It makes perfect sense to create this movie for introducing Miles, more so considering Tom Holland has cast doubt on his future as Peter Parker. We wrote about it and you can read it here.

The world would be completely different from when we last saw it. Harry Osborn is dead, and with it being set so far down the line Mary-Jane should be dead as well to further showcase the tragedies Peter Parker has been through.

The movie would follow a very similar style to the way Logan was presented. It was gritty, dark, and really showed what the world is like so many years into the future when there’s barely anything left.

Obviously in this, Peter will have fought his Rogues on multiple occasions, been battered, but still kept going. The Sinister 6 is pretty much gone, so this would present who would be the better villain for Spider-Man. I’ll leave that one up to debate but a symbiote could work wonders.

Bringing Sam Raimi back would be fantastic as well. He understands Spider-Man very well even if the third installment is less than popular among fans. It would be a great memento to finish off Tobey’s Spider-Man once and for all and to do it properly.

Logan did what nobody else could do and did it pretty damn well. Spider-Man is one of those characters where the same story has been told time and time again. It’s time to pass the mantle onto Miles Morales or do an older Spider-Man movie so fans can feel like a new story is being told.

Granted, No Way Home will surprise us in many ways even if the rumors turn out to be false. But it’s still the same old story that’s been told before, just sprinkled in with a few different elements such as Doctor Strange. I have no doubt it would be fantastic but I think we need to begin looking beyond the teenager Peter Parker era. It’s been 20 years now. It’s time to let it go.
