Let's Talk

Why Silver Sable Needs A Live-Action Series

Silver Sable is a character that Sony currently owns the rights to in live-action form along with Black Cat. A few years back it was rumored to be a movie titled “Silver & Black” but ultimately this project was canceled back in August of 2018 to rework and focus on each character as two separate projects, however, nothing has been heard since.

Sony canceling or not moving forward with these two iconic characters is a huge weird decision, especially in a day and age when strong female lead projects have been pushed to the forefront of live-action and continue to do so going into 2022.

While I do believe that Silver Sable and Black Cat could both hold their own solo projects, I do believe one of those projects should be turned into a series and my pick would be Silver Sable. I’ll give 5 reasons as to why I believe it should be a series.

1. She’s not as popular as she once was.

Silver Sable has always been a strong badass female in the comics, taking on the likes of The Punisher is a fight. As she hasn’t got the same attention of let’s say, Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch or Spider-Gwen, A solid series that focuses on her origin and persona could be a great way to introduce the character to a newer audience.

2. She’s a powerful badass.

As mentioned above, she fought The Punisher in an intense battle. Frank Castle is no easy fight, even if you are a male hero or villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so to see Sable go up against him and walk away is quite impressive, to say the least.

3. She was married to an assassin.

As of late, being an assassin in a comic book project is very popular with Black Widow, Yelena, hawkeye, and so on. We’ve seen great assassins throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe so to bring in someone like Silver Sable would introduce other assassins and mercenary’s throughout Marvel history like her ex-husband, Foreigner, an international assassin and head of the 1400 Club would make for an interesting plot.

4. She has an unique backstory.

The family of Silver Sable is composed of her father Ernst Sablinov, her uncle Morty, and the young cousin Anna, who Sable calls her niece. Sable’s mother was Anastasia Sablinova who was killed in front of her by her father’s enemies, who ran a Nazi-hunting group. After this event, Sable was trained to become a Nazi-hunting Mercenary.

5. Powers, abilities, and equipment.

Sable is an athletic woman with no superhuman powers. She is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant and is skilled in various martial arts. She is also an expert markswoman, swordswoman, and gymnast. Sable also possesses strong leadership capabilities.

Her gear is also unique. She wears synthetic stretch fabric lined with Kevlar throughout the torso. She often carries and katana, chais, a stun gun, and a derringer. She generally has the latest technology and equipment at her disposal provided by her company, Silver Sable International.

How Would I Do The Series?

Well, I would begin the series as an origin, especially throughout the first season. Let the first season be an origin simply for the “newer audience” who don’t truly know the character of Silver Sable. I would have it based in Symkaria out of the way of an already established hero or villain in whatever universe Sony wants to set it in.

Have it set in present-day but ultimately have flashbacks to when her mother is killed as well as her training to become who she is in the present-day. I would have the series be around 11-13 episodes long at an hour each to truly give time for the character and story development. At the end of the season, I would introduce the Wild Pack as we have already seen a member in live-action in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.

How do I know This Series Would Work?

Firstly, She was one of the most talked-about characters coming from the Insomniac Games Spider-Man Playstation game. When she showed up in the game, it was a great addition and the character shined very well next to Spider-Man as well as being a somewhat decent DLC involving her.

Secondly, I don’t see why Sony doesn’t capitalize on the movement of female pushed projects in live-action as this is what everyone is talking about in mainstream social media. You obviously get the haters and this series will in fact bring haters to it, but if done correctly, this could be a huge hit for Sony going forward to expand their universe along with Black Cat and any other strong female characters they want to do in live-action form.

there are plenty of great actresses that would absolutely kill it in this role of this badass character who has been in the comics for many years as well as holding her own against some of the most badass male characters such as The Punisher.

I would absolutely love to see Silver Sable brought to live-action and given a great story and well-received by fans, there are plenty of stories to tell with her as the main focus, many characters she could also work within live-action such as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Tom Hardy’s Venom and more.
