Morbius has once again been delayed. The reasons for this new delay are unknown but it’s safe to say that the delay is in fact because of the uprising in Covid-19 related cases and spikes around certain countries.
The rumor is that the studio is worried that the movie’s performance at the box office will be derailed because of this new wave of Omicron and with a movie that has a lower recognition factor than a character like Spider-Man that it will not do as well.
I get it if this is the reasoning behind the new delay. People are still not comfortable returning to cinemas around the world, and they even struggled to go see Spider-Man even though that made over 600 million at the box office so far.
My issue with this latest delay is the fact that this is now the seventh delay that this movie has had.

Now we don’t know the exact reason for the delay, the likely option is because of the rise in Omicron spikes, but people have obviously been throwing out theories and excuses as to why this could have been delayed once again.
One of the reasons is that the movie and studio don’t want this movie to be overshadowed by Spider-Man No Way Home’s last handful of weeks at the box office and that the studio fully believes in the script for the movie so they want to give it a fair box office run. That’s reasonable.
This next theory is that the studio wants to do a few more reshoots to add in a certain Spider-Man character that people have been campaigning for on Twitter to return for a third movie, Andrew Garfield. While this is very unlikely and very far-fetched I would love to see this be the reason and if it is confirmed to be more reshoots then it’s a very good chance that this is true, however, as the movie is only been moved a few months away I don’t think the timing for reshoots as well as VFX/CGI editing would be enough.
Black Widow Syndrome
Black Widow was a movie that was made after Endgame which focused on Natasha around the time that Civil War had ended, this movie was scheduled to release but kept getting delayed and delayed and the studio didn’t even release trailers for months that caused one of the downfalls of the movie, in my opinion.
The hype for Black Widow was great, she was finally getting a solo movie something that many people, including myself, have asked for, for years. While we got the announced the hype came and everything was happy, then Covid-19 hit and movies got delayed, this movie was one of the major ones which got hit the hardest.
We went months without a single trailer and that every single time the movie was delayed my hype, along with many others got dwindled and lost. Then the studio decided to release the movie in theaters in the midst of a pandemic as well as releasing it on disney+ for a price.
While the movie turned out bad and was a slight disappointment for fans, I do feel as though the delays did cause viewers to get a sour taste even before the movie was released.
So, could Morbius be headed in the same direction as Black Widow? Are people losing interest and the movie tanking? We can only wait and see.
