Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett Showed a BD Droid, Could it be Cal’s BD-1 Droid?

The latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett was exceptional. Even despite the episode focusing more on Din Djarin than Boba himself but I’m glad we got this episode in particular.

The Mandalorian’s first 2 seasons aired a year apart but Boba Fett’s series took that spot this time around so fans needed to wait until the 3rd season was here before we learned of what happened after the events of the season 2 finale.

There were tons of callbacks and Easter Eggs to dig your teeth into in that episode, especially nods to the Prequels which are becoming more common now in Star Wars canon considering they were shunted from ever being mentioned at one point.

One of those Eggs which did get me excited was the BD droid. This particular BD droid was on Tatooine with Peli Motto, seemingly assisting her in building Din’s new ship (another callback to the Prequels as the ship used here was the same ship Anakin used in The Phantom Menace).

If you haven’t played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order then you may be unfamiliar with who this droid I’m referring to could be.

BD-1 is the droid that travels with Cal Kestis (a Jedi) in his mission to restore the Jedi Order. BD-1 assists Cal in many ways and in some situations, Cal gets himself into, BD-1 saves his life. Especially when he’s close to losing the fight against Trilla Suduri. BD-1 takes its own initiative and opens a barrier between the two allowing Cal to continue on his journey unharmed.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I and many other Star Wars fans could just be premature in thinking this in BD-1. We know there are probably thousands of them scattered across the galaxy but it does seem interesting that they showed this BD droid now when we know he wasn’t there previously when Din Djarin has visited?

If this is in fact BD-1 showing up (out of all times), then it’s a plausible theory that Cal Kestis could be working with Luke Skywalker and Cal sent the droid there as they probably know a war is brewing between the Pikes and Boba.

We also know at the end of the episode, Din discusses with Fennec Shand about him helping Boba in the war. Din agrees to do so free of charge but does mention to Fennec that he needs to go somewhere first. This is where the theory suggests he could go to visit Luke and Grogu.

I’m not expecting Luke Skywalker to come back to Tattooine to help as he will be in full flow of training with Grogu. That’ll be an amazing scene nonetheless. But, there is someone who potentially may need to go and collect his droid anyway? This is where Cal could come in.

The Fallen Order game was a huge success for Respawn and EA. It’s even better they cast Cameron Monaghan to play Cal Kestis. If you don’t know the name of Cameron then he’s the one that played the Joker in the Gotham series and is a fantastic actor in live-action.

This does allow the potential for Cal to be used in both video games and in live-action. It would also showcase that Cal’s presence within the Star Wars universe isn’t just for the games but in the overall spectrum. He will also join the likes of Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan who have jumped from an animated theme to live-action.

I also believe this would hype up the sequel for Fallen Order (which was recently announced by EA, which you can read here). People who don’t play a lot of video games could be intrigued by Cal resulting in better sales for the current game and the sequel itself.

I also believe that Cal showing up in the final battle would just be incredible entertainment. I’m a sucker for a force-sensitive user using a lightsaber so if Cal does show up to help Boba in this upcoming spectacle of war then I am all for it.

Obviously, it’s a little farfetched, but this is Star Wars after all. After Luke Skywalker showed up in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, it’s safe to say I now never know what to expect when it comes to Star Wars. Especially when Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are involved.
