Superman & Lois “Bizarros in a Bizarro World” Review

Season 2 Episode 10 – Superman races through the portal after Ally Allston but when he arrives on the other side, he discovers everything on this parallel earth is bizarre; Superman goes on one wild ride in his fight to stop Ally from merging.

What I Liked

1. Immediately into the episode, we see what happened with Superman and where he ended up. They have done very well with the design of Bizarro’s planet, more so it being squared than the round earth we know. He immediately goes to the Fortress of Solitude there where he finds his mother.

2. Jon seems to be the main player in this world now that Bizarro or the Superman of this earth is dead. We do seem to be getting a backstory for Bizarro as well which I do like but do also feel like it should have been a few episodes ago.

3. On this earth, Jon seemed to take the fame role compared to Superman’s normal secret identity side. This results in Jon and his father, Bizarro clashing often and hard. It’s a super interesting take and you could probably easily create an entire spin-off based on just this earth alone.

4. We now know how Bizarro essentially became Bizarro. Failing his family and seemingly harming himself resulted in looking the way that he did. He mentioned to Lois that he needed to stop Ally on our earth to redeem himself. That scene was actually quite sad.

5. We also even further know that Jon isn’t the hero we suspected. We jump back to our present where Jon begins attacking Superman demanding to know where Anderson is before he just shows up.

6. Anderson seems to be filled with regret after seeing what happened when he shows up. Even more so considering everything is reversed, he’s struggling to get his point across which is really sad. Could this be a redemption story for Anderson? Very well played if so.

7. There it is. Anderson apologies to Superman for what he did on their earth. I wasn’t almost crying there, just a few onions being chopped in the same room.

8. Interestingly, Lana and Morgan Edge are married in this world. We do get the Morgan backstory here and Bizarro was correct. Both he and Kal were very close in this world. Another curious scene that would be very good as a spin-off.

9. At the very end after Morgan is forced to walk from Bizarro, this time, right at the end he tells Superman to go and save his son. I just absolutely love Morgan Edge. We get to see the end of the last episode where both Jon meet. Could this be the lead-up to the Jon we know finally getting his powers?

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favourite Moment

It’s now Anderson vs Jon and Superman vs Morgan Edge and Lana. Both of these fights are absolutely fantastic in every regard. The good guys seemingly lose but this doesn’t take away from how damn intense both of these fights were. Holy shit.

Standout Character

I have to give it to Jon this week. He was absolutely brilliant with powers. I really hope this is something that can continue once this story arc is finished. I’m honestly blown away by that performance.

Verdict

One of the best episodes of the season without a shadow of a doubt. Featuring the Bizarro universe, the writers have done a phenomenal job in bringing that world to life in such a massive way. As mentioned a couple of times already, they could easily make that into a spin-off with such ease and it would be so interesting.
