Naomi “Ready or Not” & “Who Am I?” Reviews – Final 2 Episodes

As both episodes were released together, we will be reviewing this as one episode and not 2.

Season 1 Episode 12 – After having visions from her brief time on Earth-29, Naomi seeks the advice of her protectors; Naomi receives a special gift from Akira and sets off on a road trip with Annabelle to search for a specific place from a new vision.

Season 1 Episode 13 – Naomi must make a decision to protect those she loves most, but in the end, Naomi needs those closest to her to battle a powerful being that has been hunting her since birth.

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain major spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode we would recommend that you click off the article, and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. The first scene was pretty gripping, I’m gutted it ended so quickly but we saw the moment Naomi was sent to Earth by her parents. It appears they were hiding from Brutus but were found, and only had a few seconds to get Naomi to safety. The last moment we saw was the pod closing and then Naomi woke up.

2. I love Zumbado, he has no filter whatsoever. Dee tries to gently get Lourdes and Anthony out of his shop, and Zumbado just comes out as his usual creepy self and makes them leave.

3. After Lourdes and Anthony discover Naomi’s rock, one of Brutus’ Men appears ready to attack. It’s at this moment Lourdes and Anthony are covered by wings, and Dee and Zumbado make their appearance. These two certainly know how to make an entrance.

4. As Naomi is running away, or driving away as such. Julian and his other aggressive-looking mate shows up and the car flips. Jen and Greg just disappeared when Naomi goes to check. Shortly after we realize that everyone has been taken leaving Naomi isolated. This is an excellent start to the final ever episode.

5. I do have to give Naomi’s friends props. They all work together in order to take down the bad guys and save the adults who were kidnapped. They’re so proud when they eventually do so as well which was pretty entertaining.

What I Disliked

1. So they train Naomi for Brutus coming, only to tell her she can’t be there for Brutus coming? Doesn’t make much sense.

2. Honestly I thought we were over the whole everyone obsessing over Naomi, and yet Anthony has jumped straight back on it since her break up with Nathan 2 minutes ago. Honestly, it makes me cringe. Anthony and Lourdes have just been the most pointless and desperate characters throughout this show, I really haven’t seen a point in them.

3. Getting a bit sick of self-pity every single week. Constantly hearing “I’m not ready” and “I can’t do this” it’s just repetitive.

4. That rock has never ever lit up unless Naomi has touched it, but coincidentally, it happens to be lit up just as Lourdes and Anthony are searching through the woods for clues.

5. We don’t know his name but we can only assume he’s been hired by Brutus to take out Naomi, but as he turns up to fight Naomi all I can say is I felt utter secondhand embarrassment throughout it. The quality and CGI throughout this episode so far have been absolutely appalling and that scene was horrific.

6. The scene of Naomi seeing her parents was a complete waste of time, all we found out was that someone betrayed them?? They could’ve given so much more information here and they didn’t.

7. I appreciate Naomi taking the bigger step, going through the portal, and confronting Brutus. But she’s an idiot. Doing this solo when she has a group of people around her who are powerful. Not just that, but they also care. This was just dumb.

8. Brutus was fairly underwhelming if I’m being honest. We waited until the 13th episode for this and it just wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. I expected more from this.

9. Another “fight” that happens off-screen. It’s no wonder the show is canceled. After Akira shows up to hold down Brutus and close the portal down after saving Naomi, she stands toe to toe with Brutus only for it to cut to a scene with Zumbado and Naomi. Seriously man. That’s so many fights that we should have seen but never did.

10. So it turned out it was the parents who betrayed Naomi’s birth parents. This just feels like a massive cop-out and makes absolutely zero sense. It wasn’t a bad twist but this just felt like a way to make people intrigued by the show but it’s always too late. Naomi flies away in fantastic fashion with those Microsoft Paint effects. Horrific.

Favourite Moment

Dee cried. Man, onions being cut again is ridiculous. That was a beautiful scene with Naomi and Dee, where they complement what they’ve done for each other in many different ways.

Standout Character

None of the characters truly stood out across both episodes but since the episodes obviously focused more on Naomi, she gets the standout character for the final 2 episodes. I can’t say anybody really stole the show in the entire season.

Verdict

The final 2 episodes show us why this series was canceled. After what started as a promising start to Naomi, it fell massively flat in the final ever 2 episodes with a cheap ending, extremely poor VFX, and next to no action as per usual. I walked away from the final feeling like I’ve wasted so much time with this series expecting it to become good, unfortunately, it never did, babe.

Rating 3.8/10

Cancelation Thoughts

Naomi was recently binned by The CW alongside many other shows. I will be going into great detail when my season review comes out this week but this show deserved to be canceled. It was truly not good at all. The show had untapped potential but unfortunately, it took way too long to get to the point. We still didn’t truly see Naomi use her powers at all in season 1. It’s no wonder the numbers dropped drastically as the episodes went on. I am happy to see The CW recognizing they can’t just put out trash and expect us to like it.
