I’ll start by saying, if you feel aggravated or offended by this article, then it’s probably aimed at you.
Very recently, we’re disgusted to see a small portion of fans DM’ing Moses Ingram, the actress who plays Reva, with racist remarks. The worst thing is, it’s not just racist, it’s actually disgusting.
I understand if you don’t like one’s performance, the character, etc, that’s fine. You’re entitled to have an opinion, but when Star Wars themselves need to come out to tweet about these comments, you know it’s gone way too far.
We’re 2 episodes into Obi-Wan at the moment, give the show a chance if you’re not a fan of it right now. I personally loved the first 2 episodes and I know many people who did as well. I also know people who weren’t a fan and that’s fine, you can dislike a show and just not be an absolute dick about it. See how it works?
Star Wars has brought many families together over the years. It’s a universe filled with creative aspects, brilliant minds, and fantastic stories. Why do people feel the need to just be so awfully toxic?
It feels like anything Star Wars does, there’s backlash. There doesn’t always need to be. I’m not a fan of the design of She-Hulk or liked the trailer, I also don’t care much for Andor, but guess what, I’ll still watch it and if I still dislike it AFTER I have given it a chance, then fine, I still won’t decide to be horrible to those that did enjoy it.
Jake Lloyd, Ahmed Best, Hayden Christensen, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran. All of these actors have dealt with pure filth, stuff none of us should ever have to deal with. I guess that’s what happens when you live in a social media world though, right? It allows people anonymity to hide behind their keyboards and say what they like.
Again, my point is, that you’re allowed to dislike something, but the moment you go on the offensive and become aggressive, you lose all credibility.
17 years ago after Revenge of the Sith came out, I never expected us to really get anything huge again within the Star Wars universe. Since 2015, we’ve had 5 movies and 4 shows, one of which is Obi-Wan that’s airing now.
We need to stand up against hate, against racism, and just enjoy the content we’re getting right now. If it doesn’t fit your standards or you dislike the idea or the actors for whatever reason. It’s simple.
Don’t watch.
We, along with millions of people around the world will enjoy and love the shows for what they are. We’re Star Wars fans like the millions around the world.
We know this is just a small minority, it always has been. But a small minority is always capable of kicking up a fuss.
We all love what we love, and we don’t like what we don’t like. It is what it is. We can do better.
We stand with Moses Ingram.
