Ms. Marvel “Crushed” Review

Season 1 Episode 2 –

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain major spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode we would recommend that you click off the article, and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. I do like the opening scene where she and Bruno are learning what her scope of the powers is. It reminded me of Shazam where they literally have a list to go through. It’s cheesy but it’s great.

2. Kamala is allowed to go to the party that’s being held by her Mom. This scene was quite touching, the last episode didn’t do enough justice to showcase that Kamala and her parents are fairly close. This scene showed that may be a bit different.

3. When Kamala arrives home, on time, she dances through the house due to her affectionate feelings toward Kamran. I loved this. It’s scenes like this that make me realize how good of a cast this is, Iman Vellani is just perfect as Ms. Marvel.

4. The show is teasing quite the mystery. I’m still unsure about the direction they’ve taken the powers but the bangle does bring an intriguing aspect to the show. Where does it come from? How is it powered? Is it related to Shang-Chi’s rings? There are so many questions that are adding to my curiosity about the show.

5. The police officer from No Way Home is in here interviewing Zoe about the events that happened at Avengercon. His sarcasm is still there, what a legend!

6. After the save, she’s chased down by the police who are using drones. She does manage to smash a couple of the drones which was pretty impressive the way she did. I am happy she’s getting used to her powers quickly.

What I Disliked

I’m having difficulty with the story so far. It’s barely there. It hasn’t advanced much or grown in 2 episodes. It feels weak. It has moments of brilliance but it’s the main story, it’s just not there. I have no doubt once it gets going it’s gonna bang but this is advancing far too slow.

Favourite Moment

A kid nearly falls out of a window at a great height. This results in Kamala needing to step into save him. Twice. The second time though she literally just throws those floor cosmic things down and the kid just bounces down to the ground on top of a car. This was the best scene by far from the show which added a bit of intensity, it was needed.

Standout Character

It’s definitely Kamala. Even if the story didn’t advance a lot, she was super entertaining as always. Iman Vellani brings a lot to the role of Kamala Khan and in this episode, that’s shown a lot. She was outstanding this episode as she was in the first.

Verdict

I have to admit, I didn’t mind the episode, I enjoyed it, but as of right now it’s slow. The story of this episode felt like it wasn’t going anywhere with the exception of the beginning and end. I have every hope the show will turn around in the next episode or two, and it’s that, that I’m looking forward to.
