Why Darth Vader Deserves His Own Show More Than Ever After Obi-Wan Kenobi

Before we start. Yes, we had 6 full films dedicated to Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, but the Kenobi show on Disney+ is the only time we’ve truly seen Vader in his prime. Rogue One, was only 4 years prior to Vader’s death, give or take so technically, that doesn’t even count.

There are 19 years between episodes 3 and 4, and there’s a lot to explore during this time. It wasn’t all quiet that a lot of casual fans are led to believe.

Vader governs the Inquisitors, and they hunt down any surviving Jedi and are killed. Kids, women, it doesn’t matter – Vader and his Inquisitors show no mercy and are ruthless in their missions.

Vader’s latest comic runs show this is in better detail but it would be so much better if this was showcased in live-action, considering the popularity of the character.

It’s baffling how this hasn’t even been announced yet. Given the fact that Darth Vader is perhaps the most popular villain of all time, it’s like Disney is just sitting on a goldmine.

I hope now that Hayden Christensen has been brought back, this could spawn into that. Since the announcement that Christensen is returning to the role of Anakin/Vader, it’s been largely praised by the Star Wars community. Despite people’s opinions on Kenobi, the direction, story, etc. The one thing I see that’s consistently praised is Vader.

In episode 5 of Kenobi, this is where I just realized I want a standalone Vader show so badly. In the latest episode, he brought down a ship just using the force and then defeated Reva in combat without even igniting his lightsaber. He was so confident in his abilities that he made her look ridiculous, this is what we need more of.

I know people don’t like it, but it’s not just Vader’s relentless fighting abilities, it’s him. That’s what we need to see on top of him hunting surviving Jedi. I want to see how Palpatine is messing with the suit, I want to see Vader grieve over Padme in private, I want to see how his day-to-day operations go with the bacta tank, etc.

The show could be set before or even after the events of Kenobi. Kenobi is set 10 years after episode 3 which still leaves 9 years between that and episode 4. I think we’re all pretty certain Obi-Wan is going to best Vader in combat in the finale. It has to happen to align with the words Vader spoke during episode 4…

If he’s beaten, we know Vader will learn from that and probably become more angry and agitated than he ever has been. We could see this or we could see him adjusting to his new life in the suit. They have Christensen sat there, plus cast members now for the Inquisitors, it’s more possible now than it ever has been.

Please, Disney, make it happen.
