What I Liked
1. I’m happy we’re getting a backstory on how the bangle got into the family and into the hands of Kamala. It’s also an interesting aspect to see a British-controlled India and the British Army pummelling the temple they’re in.
2. Kamala explaining to Bruno that she’s a Jinn was absolutely hilarious. Iman Vellani just pulled off the confusing character down perfectly here. She’s trying to explain everything to Bruno but at the same time, she realizes how ridiculous it all sounds.
3. I’m happy to see Kamala having some beautiful moments with her family during the episode. After playing the game and seeing how close she is to her father had me confused. In this episode, she has a lovely moment with both of her parents separately. It’s something I felt was needed for the show, I’m glad it happened.
4. The dance at the wedding was so entertaining. It just had feel-good vibes all around, especially when Kamala got involved. I actually really loved the entire scene with the wedding, it looked like so much fun.
5. An actual brilliant fight scene happens. Kamala vs the group. We see little glimpses of the different types of powers she has and I’m honestly becoming more impressed as it goes. Kamran defies his Mother and the group to help Kamala after Bruno is injured. They do manage to get out of the building after being surrounded until the agents from earlier intervene. I really did enjoy this. I’ve been a harsh critique of Kamala’s new powers compared to normal but this direction and foundation seem solid.
What I Disliked
Nothing to report this week.
Favourite Moment
After the Jinn goes after Kamala due to her wanting more time to help, they interrupt the wedding to get her, resulting in her defending herself against them all whilst we listen to Livin’ On a Prayer. She manages to just athletically evade the shots, proving that she can in fact handle herself. It made it so much better just because of the song playing.
Standout Character
It’s definitely Kamala this week. Seeing her powers manifest in a much better light was well needed for the show. She showed that she’s more than capable of handling herself when it matters most. It does also show that if she is that athletic in her evasiveness then we’re in for a treat.
Verdict
My favorite episode so far. I was worried that the show was going to drag everything out but that wasn’t the case, this week it truly moved forward with the story. I do have to say though, I cannot wait to see the suit!
