The official teaser for the upcoming third season of Pennyworth has been released.
The trailer comes with a release month as well as the reveal of the brand new title for the series.
The official teaser reveals that the series will premiere in October but has no official date for the release so it could literally be at any point in October and could even be moved completely.
The series is the origin story of Alfred Pennyworth, a former special-forces soldier living in London, and how he came to work for Bruce Wayne’s father.
The series stars Jack Bannon as the cunning Alfred Pennyworth in his younger days in London.
Now, this is where my issue comes into play. The new title. I absolutely despise it. It completely puts the character in the shadows.
The original title was “Pennyworth”, it was simple, yet very effective in showcasing the character. It put him in his own light as this badass special forces soldier. We’ve seen that throughout the series. It made him his own person.
This new title “Pennyworth: The Origins of Batman’s Butler” is downright disgraceful. They’ve done this purely to draw more light onto Batman than he currently has. When this series is basically nothing to do with Batman, yes the Waynes play a part in the series, but this is focused on Alfred. Not him waiting and serving a child.
Batman currently has movies, and games, and at this current moment, has around 6 comics involving him. We do not need more Batman. Let Alfred be his own person, let him grow his own fanbase, and become this great character that he should be.
I refuse to call this series by its new title, I’ll be sticking with “Pennyworth”.
