I think if anyone doesn’t know about the downward spiral of Ezra Miller in the past year or two must be under a rock. It is now a common occurrence to see a headline involving crime and Ezra Miller. It’s literally become a meme on social media.
What does this mean for The Flash movie? Well according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is currently weighing options for the fate of the upcoming speedster movie.
The three paths that are being spoken about are;
- Ezra Miller does an interview explaining their erratic behavior and does limited press for the movie.
- Ezra Miller plays no part in the film’s promotion and the role will be recast after this movie.
- The film gets completely scrapped.
While Warner Bros. Discovery had hoped to not be in the line of fire as the movie isn’t releasing until June 23, 2023, but with the continued erratic behavior by Ezra Miller is continuing to grow on them.
Just recently, the actor was charged with felony burglary, and on Wednesday it was reported that Vermont’s child services department is attempting to locate a mother and three children who have allegedly been residing at Miller’s farm.
The first path is that Miller continues to seek professional help and could at some point give an interview explaining their erratic behavior over the past few years. The actor would then do limited press for The Flash and the movie would open in cinema as originally planned.
The second path is that Miller will completely be removed from doing promotion, marketing, and publicity for the movie and the role would simply be recast in future projects set in the DC Extended Universe and projects revolving around The Flash.
The third path is the worst-case scenario. This would see the movie completely killed. The movie is too heavily shot with Miller and it would be impossible to reshoot with a different actor. Miller plays multiple characters and is in almost every scene. Scrapping a $200 million film would be an unprecedented movie.
Obviously when these three paths were revealed you had people immediately jumping on and saying scrap the film. I saw this mainly from Snyder fans. I’m not saying they are wrong but I’m saying that they’ve wanted no new films to happen because it’s not from Snyder or has not got Ben Affleck Batman involved.
If this were me, I would go with option 2. Simply recast and then Warner Bros. can do the character right. It’s my one gripe with Snyder. When he introduced the character of The Flash into the DCEU, he went completely against what the character was. He mixed characters together. Ezra Miller’s version of the Flash has the “Barry Allan” name and backstory, but simply has the personality of Wally West. He also has the white lightning similar to Wally in the Rebirth comics.
What do you think, what option would you go with?
I personally would not scrap it. I’d simply recast. The movie has a $200 million budget, it has new characters being introduced that people are excited to see like Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Don’t let that be wasted, similar to Batgirl.
