Back in July 2022, news broke out that the highly anticipated KOTOR was delayed indefinitely by Aspyr Media. We’re still unsure why the game was delayed but this isn’t a great outlook when the game was announced at the PlayStation Showcase 2021.
Since July, rumors have swirled around online that the game has been picked up by a new developer but this ties into why I’m losing hope.
Despite Aspyr’s terrible direction with the game so far, they do make some damn good games. They made both of the Knights of the Old Republic and also the first Forced Unleashed game. The one thing all of those 3 games have in common is exceptional storytelling.
I’d assume the script is all done for the remake but if a new studio comes in and takes over, how will that be handled? They could change it and change it for the worse. After all, in the movie universe, we’ve seen it happen plenty of times. DC has this problem as well with Suicide Squad (2016) and Justice League.
It’s one of my worries with the game that what Aspyr has planned to what a new studio will do could be vastly different. I’d ideally prefer Aspyr to continue on with the game but if they can’t provide anything moving forward then I will take a new studio on it. I really want this to happen, I just want it to be good.
The second thing is the indefinitely delayed part. We’ve seen games in the past be indefinitely delayed and then canceled or don’t happen. Star Wars 1313 was a prime example of this in the Star Wars universe.
The game was originally supposed to be released at the end of this year (rumored) and now we’re looking at 2025 and beyond. It’s such a damn shame that a game with this magnitude of hype has been laughably insulted.
Out of all of the Star Wars games that have been announced including Ubisoft’s game, Survivor, Eclipse, and others, this was the one that excited me the most, even more so considering I absolutely love the Jedi series with Cal Kestis.
I am still pissed that this has been just shelved with no reasoning, no updates, nothing. I’m trying to be optimistic but I have a strong feeling this game will never see the light of day. Maybe I’m wrong, and I seriously hope I am, but I have no hope left for this game. It’s been less than a year since the Showcase trailer and it’s all gone to the pits since.
