Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Episodes – Ranked

Recently, Star Wars debuted a new animated shorts series on Disney+, it showcased some fantastic stories set within the prequel era movies, from different points of view that gave some personal, emotional, loving moments within.

I recently binged them all since they are roughly between 15-20 minutes long. I had heard fantastic and positive stuff about the series leading up to me watching them for myself. It got to the point where I couldn’t even refresh Twitter without seeing a few tweets or posts about it.

They were all fantastic episodes, especially the Count Dooku ones. I’ll explain why soon.

Episode 1 – Life and Death

Life and Death focused on something I never thought I’d see play out in animation or even live-action. The birth of one of the greatest Jedi to ever live, Ahsoka Tano. It showed her birth, as well as her debuting Force abilities at a year old when she made a wild, rabbit creature tame and loving.

like: I love that we got to witness the birth of Ahsoka Tano, as well as getting to meet her parents, her culture, and where she originated from.

Dislike: The pacing of the episode, it felt like the slowest episode but that didn’t take away from anything.

Episode 2 – Justice

Episode 2 gave us an introduction to Count Dooku as a Jedi and a young Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn. This truly was a fantastic episode. Especially seeing the Dark side come out of Dooku. I really liked this episode simply because of seeing Dooku as a Jedi, we’ve only really seen him as a villain in live-action.

Like: I loved seeing Dooku use the Force to push back Qui-Gon to stop him from distracting him from using the Dark side.

Dislike: The design of Qui-Gon. I disliked his face mainly, I felt it was completely off from the older Qui-Gon we saw.

Rank: 3

Episode 3 – Choices

This was my favorite episode hands down. This episode felt like it had the most action in it. This episode also had a team-up between Dooku and Mace Windu. It showed you just how opposite the two are from one another. It also teased just how self-entitled Mace is.

Like: The action. It was fantastic, seeing Dooku and Mace fight together was fantastic, I loved every moment.

Dislike: None.

Episode 4 – The Sith Lord

This episode was very emotional, very sad-driven, it almost made you feel absolutely sorry for Dooku. We know in Canon that Qui-Gon was Dooku’s Padawan. We know that Dooku got very angry and almost reunited with the Jedi because Sidious allowed Maul to kill Qui-Gon. We saw the aftermath of this. We saw just how hurt Dooku was because he lost Qui-Gon.

Like: I truly loved that Yaddle got time to shine. I love the fact that she spoke normally and was a badass fighter.

Dislike: None.

Episode 5 – Practice Makes Perfect

This episode was absolutely great for one reason alone. Anakin pre-emptively saved Ahsoka Tano’s life from ending in Order 66. This episode was simply him and the 501st Legion teaching Ahsoka to block blaster bolts only them using stuns instead. This went on for hours and hours. This is when we get a flashback to The Clone Wars season 7 where we see Ahsoka use that technique that Anakin taught her to escape a deadly end.

Like: Anakin saved Ahsoka without her even knowing it. It truly cemented the bond between the two.

Dislike: This might be petty but I would have loved to see Anakin get into a fight, and maybe show Ahsoka how to properly defend herself.

Rank: 4

Episode 6 – Resolve

This episode felt like the pure shortest episode of all time. Maybe that’s just me. This episode was still very emotional, especially the scene between Bail Organa and Ahsoka Tano post-Order 66. This episode was beautifully done. The music choice in this episode was perfect.

Like: Ahsoka Tano returns to Naboo to pay her respects and say goodbye to Padme. Bail Organa told Ahsoka that she couldn’t have saved both of them.

Dislike: How short it felt.

Rank: 5

I feel like Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi has set the premise that it can go on for countless seasons by giving fans multiple stories that we most likely wouldn’t see in any major animation or live-action Star Wars project.

They could do Darth Plagueis and Sidious story. That would be perfect. I feel like this series is a winner in all regards.
