TITANS “Faux-Hawk” Review

Season 2 Episode 12 “While Hank is busy cage fighting after breaking up with Dawn, someone steals the Hawk suit. Donna and Dawn finds a way to rescue Gar from Cadmus facility. Rose reveals her secret to Jason. Dick escapes from prison to find Jericho.”

What I Liked?

1. We go back to just after Slade has stabbed Jericho, we see the shock both characters felt and we get to see Jericho put his conscious inside Slade. We get to see inside the mind of someone when Jericho is inside them.. We find out that Jericho can control them but if the host is strong enough they can take the wheel so to speak, We get to see Jericho nearly kill Slade from inside of him.

2. Gar is inside of a coffee shop and we see him being his normal self until we hear that music which sets Gar off, he turns into a tiger and the rest is history. I want to know when Gar will turn into other animals, we’ve only seen him turn into a tiger and snake and that’s it.

3. Hank has gone in a downward spiral since splitting from Dawn. When we see Hank he’s fighting as Hawk in a cage fighting place where he’s some sort of celebrity as he’s told them he’s the “leader” of the Titans. We get to see just how bad Hank is when we come to learn he’s fighting so he can get money for his drug habit.

4. Now for a flashback that i’ve wanted all season… how Rose met Slade. We learn that Rose’s mother hasn’t told her about Slade just yet but as Rose continues to hurt herself she set’s off to find Slade to which she does, they speak and Rose shoots herself in her hand but quickly heals.

Slade willingly brings Rose with him so he can train her and gives her a super suit. We get to see how brutal Deathstroke’s training is and just how smart Slade is. He organized Rose breaking out Dr Light, he designed a plan to get Dick to help Rose and that the two will turn the Titans against each other from the inside.

5. I felt bad for Jason this episode, not only is he ignoring the Titans, Rose also told him Slade’s plan and that she used him basically but she actually had real feeling towards Jason but Jason doesn’t care and leaves heartbroken.

6. Hank wakes up from a nightmare where Dove is fighting him inside the cage. Hank realizes Hawk robbed some laundromat to which he set’s off to go reclaim the Hawk to but we find out that his drug habit is that bad he doesn’t remember selling his Hawk suit.

What I Disliked?

1. We spent basically all of season one seeing Kory remember her powers and learn them now they are barely working properly. Kory for me has been wasted this season.

2. It feels like Jason has giving up on life and we’ll be seeing something happen to him in the near future. It is wasted to not see him as Robin this much and moping around but if this leads to Red Hood then that’s fine.

Favourite Moment

Dick goes to a shoe makers store? Joking! No but really Dick heads to a shoe maker store to order a “new” pair of shoes but the shop owner is reluctant because he’s a fruitcake maker now and he likes to burn his fruitcake. Dick apologizes for burning his Robin suit so the owner forgives him and tells him that Bruce has already ordered his new suit and we get a tease of it but not a proper reveal just yet.

Standout Character

There was a couple of standout characters this episode but for me Hank takes this for not only coming to realize just how bad he’s fallen, but because he played the role of a drug addict really well and no matter how bad he gets he always know right from wrong.

The Verdict

This episode felt like a filler episode but it did fill in some backstory on Slade and Rose and just showed us how prepared and intelligent Slade is. We finally got a tease of the Nightwing suit. Hank dealing with his inner demons was good to see as well.
