Transformers “Autobots” – Ranked

With Rise of the Beasts headed to cinemas next year in 2023, I figured I’d give my ranked list of the Autobots we’ve met across multiple films in the Transformers universe.

Now, this is purely an Autobot list, I could have entered some Decepticons in this list but I felt like this article should be all about the good guys. This list will go from worst to best and of course, this is my opinion and why I liked them.

#10 Hot Rod

Now, Hot Rod makes this list simply because of his backstory. It was unique. He was on Earth since WW1 or 2. He was best friends with Bumblebee and even had separated from Bee to go and protect a family. His design is very lovely too.

#9 The Wreckers

The Wreckers were a trio of Autobots whose counterparts were NASCAR. It’s quite fitting that this fits their personalities of being brash, loud, and vulgar. They helped the government in the Dark of the Moon. This is what I loved about seeing this trio for a short amount of time.

#8 Skids and Mudflap

Skids and Mudflap debuted in Revenge of the Fallen as an ugly ice cream van that both of them scanned at the same time allowing the duo to combine into a vehicle. Throughout the movie, they were comedic relief. I would have loved to see them more but as mentioned in the Dark of the Moon novel, the duo ultimately fell to the hands of Sentinel Prime, along with Ironhide.

#7 Sideswipe

Sideswipe was a cool Autobot. I have always wondered what had happened to him in the first and fourth installments of the franchise. He will always be remembered for his cool action scenes and his great standoff with Ironhide and two Decepticons.

#6 Mirage

Mirage was a unique vehicle and Autobot. He spoke with an Italian accent and transforms into a Ferrari. I would have loved to see more of him even though it’s believed that he survived the final battle in the third movie, he is never seen again.

#5 Jazz

Jazz, is the ultimate Autobot. Loyal to the very end and not only to the Autobots but to the humans as well. The second-in-command to Optimus Prime went out swinging. In the first movie, Megatron arrives and Jazz, Bee, and Ironhide try to retreat, but knowing Megatron would kill the humans that were still on the ground, Jazz decided to fire upon Megatron, Megatron in return, turns into a jet, flies off with Jazz and rips him in two.

#4 Optimus Prime

This might be a controversial spot for Prime, especially since he is the main Autobot, he is all-mighty and all-powerful. I love Prime, we’ve seen him have many great fights and scenes, especially him and Sam but that’s the thing, we know he’ll survive.

#3 Drift

I won’t lie, I have a soft spot for anything samurai. Drift is exactly that. He’s unique, I instantly fell in love with his character because of it. He’s a badass. He has a friendly rivalry with Bumblebee. The former Decepticon has a rare ability. A triple-changer. He can change into a Bugatti Veyron as well as a Cybertronian helicopter.

#2 Bumblebee

I think any fan of the franchise will have something to say about Bumblebee and at one point would have said “I want that car”. Bumblebee is a character like no other. He’s unique in the sense that while other Autobots have voices, Bumblebee tends to not, especially in the first few movies. He speaks on his radio. His relationship with Sam is absolutely incredible.

#1 Ironhide

I love brutes, I love any character that shoots when needed and will not stop. I love a character that will not hesitate to throw down at any given point and any character that is willing to put his life on the line is incredible… Ironhide is that guy. He wants all the smoke. I’ve never felt anything like it seeing his death play out on-screen.

That’s my list. There are other Autobots I could have mentioned but I don’t think any of them could live up to this list. I hope I can revisit this list once Rise of the Beasts releases and if any new Autobots debut.
