Ubisoft is currently developing its own Star Wars game and was one of the first developers to begin productions on a game within the franchise since EA had exclusive rights.
There’s next to no news at all from Ubisoft regarding the game and all we know at present is that it’s codenamed Snowdrop.
I’ve played all of the major titles from Ubisoft in the last 15 years including major series such as Watch Dogs, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed. This isn’t a good thing or a bad thing. Ubisoft can make a good game but they can also make an atrocious game (I’m looking at you Watch Dogs 3).
Here are 10 things I want to see within the game itself. I understand we don’t know much but we do know it’s an open-world experience. Based on my past experience with the above franchises, it’s fairly clear what we’re going to see.
10. Better customization menu
If you don’t know what I mean then it’s this.
This menu is just boring now. It’s the same menu in every single game. I get it, some like this and it does its job but I want to see more. I want to be able to properly customize gear in the right way. I know for a fact this exact type of menu will the same in the upcoming Star Wars game but I hope it’s different.
9. Proper RPG elements
Ubisoft is terrible about giving the player a choice within a game but it actually has NO bearing on the story at all. As this is a Star Wars game, I want to see a more branching story that changes as you go. Similar to Knights of the Old Republic since that game is in the mud at present. There are too many games out there now that offer these RPG elements but in fact, it’s so minimal it’s pointless. I hope this game offers us the opportunity to play how we want.
8. Choice of role (Jedi, Sith, Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, etc)
As I already mentioned we don’t know what the main character will be like. If we are to wield a saber or become a bounty hunter, then it would be nice to decide on what path we choose. This does fall in line with point 9 in a way. It just gives the player more control over how they want to play.
7. Customize lightsaber
For me personally, this is one of the best features in the Jedi series with Cal Kestis. I find myself changing my lightsaber frequently because I enjoy this a lot. This should be a feature within the game if we are to wield a lightsaber. I can’t see this being as in-depth as what Survivor is going to be but it should still be a feature if we’re running around with a lightsaber.
6. Do NOT sell XP boosts
This is the thing that pisses me off a lot when it comes to Ubisoft games. They make the grind at times unbearable. They do this by restricting how much XP you earn and forcing you to do needless and pointless side quests. They sell XP boosts to let you bypass that which is ridiculous. If the side quests are interesting, players will naturally prefer to do them anyway. I’ve noticed a theme, especially in the Assassin’s Creed games where the side quests are boring and serve nothing to the progress (except Valhalla which was pretty good). I prefer side quests when the side story at times is more interesting than what’s going on in the main quest.
5. Don’t make it a looter-shooter
Far too often we’re seeing games try to make the same step that Destiny did. The Division worked, fair. None of the rest did. Anthem and Avengers both failed. The upcoming Suicide Squad game seems to be going down the same route. The issue with these types of games is there’s next to no story. It just becomes a repetitive mess. I’d prefer to see the game go down a similar route to that of Valhalla. You had the story, side quests, and a lot of other things to do.
4. Exploration – different planets
The Jedi series has this but it’s fairly restrictive. The paths you go on are fairly linear and don’t feel as open-world as you’d like. There is a lot though. I’d like to see Snowdrop incorporate different planets too. Even if the space on the map isn’t ridiculously huge. I’d just like to see us be able to travel to different and new places in the Star Wars lore.
3. Set outside the Skywalker era
This has been a want on many people’s lists. Far too often everything Star Wars related seems to be set between this time. We currently had Battlefront 2, Fallen Order, and Squadrons all set in this timeline. We know Knights of the Old Republic is set before the events of Episode 1, but this game needs to be set somewhere else. The Star Wars lore is huge. There are so many timelines they can choose from.
2. Solid crafting system
As it’s open-world, the likelihood is that we will get a crafting system. It’s how it’s implemented that makes the difference. This ties into point 8. If we become a bounty hunter, it would be nice to craft Mandalorian armor such as Beskar, or if we become a smuggler, you can craft your ship and everything in between. It’s nice to have a choice on how your character is and how they play.
1. Make a good game
I’ve already touched base on that Ubisoft can do a great job but also do a poor one. This is Star Wars. It needs love and attention whilst listening to feedback from teams who are testing the game. When it comes to this franchise, we’ve had some terrible games from EA. Don’t make it Watch Dogs 3 and make it better than Valhalla. The foundations are there but I trust Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment to do a good job of this.
There we have it. Obviously, it’s difficult to make a wishlist just simply due to the fact we have no news outside the fact the game will be open-world. This game can definitely be unique and I hope it is.
We have no information on the game in terms of an estimated release date or what the game will entail. We’ll be sure to update you as soon as we find out. You can also keep up to date through the Snowdrop site by clicking here.
