TMNT: The Last Ronin to Become A Video Game Adaptation

The 2020 graphic novel that told a dark story about the turtles set in the future is currently in development to become a video game adaptation.

Previously, other turtle games would have you play as all four of the turtles and maybe Splinter, April O’Neil, and Casey Jones, and the games would be colorful, The Last Ronin will be a darker, more mature take on the turtles.

Recently, Doug Rosen spoke about the upcoming turtle game being similar to that of God of War titles and said that it will be authentic to the story of the Last Ronin arc, which is set in the future and one turtle has survived.

The upcoming turtle game will be a third-person action role-playing game. The game will be primarily a single-player game, although Rosen teased that other characters could be playable in flashback sequences, similar to how the comic series plays out.

The primary action is said to focus on the only surviving turtle out of the four. The identity of the remaining turtle was a mystery when the comic was first released. It was a turtle who wore all black and fought using all four of the turtle’s weapons, leaving a mystery of just what turtle survived.

The video game will target an older audience, like the recent collaboration with Call of Duty that brought Shredder to the franchise. Rosen said “there are opportunities for multiple TMNT games aimed at both young and more mature age groups, and that Paramount can take “multiple approaches [to the franchise], and not dial back to make the game something it shouldn’t be.”

While the game is being developed by an unnamed studio and is likely a “few years off” from actual release, I am so excited to see The Last Ronin being adapted into some form of media as the comic arc was one of the best I’ve read in recent years.
