The Star Wars franchise has suffered dramatically in the last few years. Everything they put out seems to be mixed reviews, there hasn’t been a film since 2019, and no proper direction. That changed today.
We’ll review everything announced and provide you with all the details we have so far.
The Ahsoka trailer is finally with us
It’s been the trailer we’ve been the most excited for and it definitely did it justice. Rosario Dawson is set to reprise her role in her debut live-action show. She nailed it in The Mandalorian so the fact she got her own show was definitely needed, especially for Star Wars: Rebels fans.
We get the announcement of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Her Syndulla in the Ahsoka series, as well as first looks at Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and a quick hologram look at Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger.
In the trailer, we get to see new characters, lightsaber action, and the live-action debut of Grand Admiral Thrawn which just completely blew us away. If you haven’t seen the trailer then we’ve provided it for you below;
3 live-action Star Wars movies
Three Directors are on board for the new upcoming films. We’re unsure what is happening with the currently announced films, including Rian Johnson but so far – 3 films are set with Directors already on board.
1. James Mangold’s film will be set “in the dawn of the Jedi”.
2. Dave Filoni’s film will focus on The New Republic.
3. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film will focus on Rey, creating the new Jedi Order 15 years after the events of Rise of Skywalker.
The Mandalorian episode 7 clip featuring Moff Gideon
Luckily enough for those in attendance at the event, they will get to watch the full episode early instead of waiting until Wednesday.
The clip begins with Elia Kane speaking to Moff Gideon on hologram, and she tells the character played by Giancarlo Esposito that “Karga was aided by Mandalorians.” Gideon then says he will deal with them before speaking to Captain Pallaeon about the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
“Grand Admiral Thrawn is missing,” Moff Gideon says.
“With respect, our one hope for success relies upon the secrecy of his return,” Pallaeon replies.
“I never hear a word of Thrawn. You’ve spoken of his imminent return. Perhaps it’s time that we look to new leadership.”
The above script was pulled from IGN.
Andor season 2 given a release window
We pretty much knew Andor was going to get a season 2. Tony Gilroy has confirmed the team is looking at an August 2024 window. He also stated they’re roughly halfway through filming and they’re on schedule. We know when anything Star Wars related is being made, it’s often the production after filming that takes the longest time due to all of the CGI. No further details were provided except the brief details and the official announcement. A teaser was shown exclusively for the attendees at Celebration, when that teaser will release online officially, we do not know.
Daisy Ridley returning for another movie
I was discussing this with Phil just a few days ago that I would love to see Daisy return for another film after the events of Rise of Skywalker. People often dismiss the Sequel trilogy but it definitely had its moments and Daisy had a lot of potential with Rey. I am glad the film is given the green light. I’d like to hopefully see John Boyega return so Disney can do that character justice.
Daisy was at the event to announce her movie, which will be set 15 years after the events of Episode 9. Rey will be attempting to restore the Jedi Order as she will be a Jedi Master. The movie is set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
The Acolyte is to be released in 2024 and the first details revealed
The Acolyte director and cast took the stage. Headland describes the show as “Frozen meets Kill Bill”. The show will be set during the High Republic and will follow the “bad guys as underdogs”. It will also be from the perspective of the villains. It will be the earlier set live-action piece of Star Wars storytelling.
Some more details were revealed about the characters, Lee Jung-Jae will play a Jedi Master in the series. Joonas Suotamo who played Chewbacca in the sequel trilogy and in Solo will once again don the hair of the Wookiee and will be playing a Wookiee Jedi in the series.
Jodie Turner Smith will play a brand new character, while Logan star Dafne Keen will play an alien. The attendees got to see the first footage of The Acolyte, featuring many Jedi wielding lightsabers (yellow one included), and the series will finish filming in May.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew showcased for the first time
Filoni describes the Skeleton Crew as “a story about a group of kids…in the Star Wars galaxy” who go on an adventure that is “more than they can handle.” The idea of the Skeleton Crew was revealed to Jon Favreau by Jon Watts on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The series is currently in post-production. Jude Law takes the stage and tells the crowd that it was “a pleasure” to join a franchise he’s loved since his childhood. It was revealed that Jude Law will play a Jedi.
Star Wars Timeline
Kathleen Kennedy comes on stage to share some news about new Star Wars movies. The Star Wars timeline includes the Old Republic, Dawn of the Jedi, The High Republic, Fall of the Jedi, Reign of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, The New Republic, The Rise of the First Order, and Daisy Ridley’s newly announced The New Jedi Order.
Logan director James Mangold will make a movie about the origins of the Jedi, and the dawning of the Force set before the Old Republic. He described it as a “Biblical epic.” While Dave Filoni will direct a movie set in between Episodes VI and VII that will be a culminating event for the plot threads in The Mandalorian and other shows. The movie will draw upon Legends/Expanded Universe and tell the story of an “epic battle”
