Why I’m Actually Excited for the Rey Star Wars Sequel

Star Wars Celebration has been and gone for another year and it was a fantastic event. If you missed a lot of the news, we covered all the major news you can read by clicking here.

Daisy Ridley attended the event and confirmed the movie herself. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be set to direct the movie. We suspect they will go for the 10-movie route and name the title “Episode X:…”.

Now, I get it. The sequels aren’t great. They do however have some fantastic moments throughout the 3 movie run. Luke vs. Kylo. Kylo redeemed himself. Poe becomes one of the best pilots in Star Wars. Han Solo dying. There’s a lot to unpack and while I agree, for the most part, the movies weren’t great but they did serve a purpose.

Rey isn’t a terrible character. She had a lot of potentials. The issue we had was the writing yet again, it’s the same issue Anakin had during the Prequels. Rey comes across as a bit of a moron with a placid personality. I fully believe they will shell this out, more so considering Rey will be a Jedi Master attempting to restore the Jedi Order.

One of the things I’m looking forward to is actually the yellow lightsaber. We saw her fuse 2 sabers together and it created the yellow one. According to Star Wars Fandom, a yellow lightsaber signifies the wielder is a Jedi Sentinel.

A Jedi who honed his or her skills in a balance of combat and scholarly pursuits

So, for me, in this movie, Rey needs to be successful in restoring the Jedi Order. We’ve seen Luke fail. We’ve also seen Cal Kestis look towards doing this before seeing the results of what would happen if he did. It can’t keep going down a repeated story of; they attempt to restore it, the big bad guy stops it, and the big bad guy now rules the galaxy. We need to see the Jedi on the rise again.

It needs to be more creative than this. I don’t want another Force Awakens type film where it’s just an almost repeat of A New Hope. It needs to be fresh. We’ve seen by the thousands of comics, fan stories, theories and so much more just how much potential the universe has.

The film needs to actually have a villain that makes an impact and doesn’t have an entire Army behind him. It’s boring. I’d be happy to see just a Sith Lord and an apprentice go for them in the shadows. It would make for more interesting storytelling.

There is a lot of animosity towards the 9 films in the Star Wars lore. The Prequels had issues, the Sequels are hated and the Originals are what they are. This is a perfect opportunity for the team to be super creative and redeem the Sequels. Bring in hardcore Star Wars fans, get their opinions, see what they’d suggest, and get ideas. Daisy Ridley is a fantastic actress and deserves all of the praise in the world.

Either way. I am super excited to see her return to the Star Wars universe. She deserves it.
