2019 has been an exceptional year in terms of TV, but we really had to sit down to figure out what we thought was better ranked. Please note, we understand some shows are missing, such as The Runaways, however, this is just shows that we have reviewed on the site.
18. Legends of Tomorrow
Perhaps the most deserving series to be at the bottom. Quite frankly, I don’t believe there’s a single series that was airing during 2019 that was worse than LoT. A series that had such an incredible, strong season 1 began to go downhill during it’s last season. Completely over-the-top, and never brings anything remotely interesting to the table anymore. The next season needs to bring it back to basics, otherwise, it should end after that.
17. Agents of Shield
Agents of Shield started off great for seasons 1-2 but it slowly got turned around when they started to move away from being connected to the MCU. I lost all interest in the show around the time of them going to the future to fight the Kree. When they eventually killed off a somewhat iconic character in Coulson, that death and the emotions that came with it got thrown out the window when they brought him back under the name Sarge. I will say that since season 6 started it did start to peak my interest again and I can not wait for the final season of it.
16. Black Lightning
Black Lightning had been great in season 1, started to get boring in season 2 and in season 3 is just plain uninteresting. The episodes in season 3 consist of basically doing the same thing (until the crisis related episode). While the show has been great but not on the same level as other DC shows like Arrow or The Flash.
15. Doom Patrol
Right, okay, I understand you’re probably thinking; “NO WAY!” Let me explain. This show was awful. It had moments that I enjoyed, but largely it was terrible. The entire plot began with, “WE NEED TO SAVE THE CAPTAIN”, then some pointless story would happen, and it would lose track. Character development was great, but the story was trash. It had barely any action, and each episode was something completely different. Cyborg was a massive waste of time as well. I could go on for a while as to why it’s so low down but this is just it for now.
14. Supergirl
Supergirl, Supergirl, Supergirl. What do we do with you? I don’t know where it all went wrong, how it went wrong, or even what happened. The first 3 seasons were so incredibly strong, then season 4, it got too political, and it fell apart. This season just involves a terrible plot with Lena’s reasoning, the CGI has somehow got worse this season, and the dialogue is a cringe to watch. I don’t enjoy this series anymore, and I don’t think I can again. I don’t look forward to watching it at all. The ONLY good thing about this is Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor.
13. Cloak and Dagger
Cloak and Dagger has been great I’ve loved watching the characters develop into the heroes that they come to be in the season 2 finale. I along with many other people were excited for the season 3 announcement but unfortunately the show got canceled. The show was great it gave us amazing stories and amazing characters that we most likely wouldn’t get to see in live action form.
12. Pennyworth
The show that nobody really cared for. The statistics still show this. Whilst Jack Bannon portrayed Alfred well, the show just wasn’t needed. We all know what is going to happen in the end anyway. It’s no surprise. The show has some fantastic moments, and the story was well written. Surprisingly I did enjoy this series and deserves an honourable mention. I just struggle to watch it, because, well, the star man of the show will become a butler eventually.
11. Batwoman
Batwoman had a lot of controversy surrounding it pre-release which I think hurt it a bit. My issue with Batwoman is the predictability. We’re 9 episodes in and I’m still yet to watch an episode that amazes me. However, it still has some solid points which is why it finds itself 11th on the list. Ruby Rose delivers an exceptional Batwoman, the suit, and the characters are well written except the villain. I’m hoping this is like Supergirl where it starts slow then just explodes. We’re yet to see.
10. Krypton
Krypton was great from the moment the show started… yes it had some boring episodes but everything in the show flowed smoothly and yet still connected to the bigger story of the season. Season 3 ended on a massive cliffhanger of the tease of the Thanagarians, Darkseid and more. The show also gave us Lobo which was a huge incredible addition to the show itself.
9. Umbrella Academy
Where to begin with the Umbrella Academy? The show was great, decently paced. It was crazy, fun and action packed. I didn’t know about the Umbrella Academy going into the show but immediately got invested into the characters as well as story.
8. The Witcher
Bursting out the park with some incredible reviews. I’ve heard the odd bad thing about it, but mostly positive. Now, don’t get me wrong, the series was amazing, but it’s just not my kind of thing. This list is solely on opinions, not fact, and I just prefer the others in front of it. Henry Cavill suits the role down to a T, and I don’t think there’s many others that could have filled that position. Netflix have already told us it’s been renewed for a second season, so the numbers must be pretty groundbreaking.
7. Swamp Thing
Third on this list to undeservingly be cancelled. Swamp Thing was working way over budget which prompted DC to cancel the show after the first. However Swamp Thing was intense, brutal, and had such a good ark during its first and only season. It ended on a cliffhanger which sucked for fans of the show, and knowing now at this rate, it’s very unlikely to be picked up. More importantly if you have not watched the show yet, although cancelled, I still hugely recommend it.
6. Watchmen
Now, I’m going to admit it, this is one of the shows that I haven’t watched. When I wrote my list I left this out, because I didn’t want to do the show any injustice. After speaking with my team about the list; they all agreed it should be placed here, and I trust their judgement. It is on my list of things to watch, having a newborn I’m strapped for time. I know every single person I’ve spoke to about the show has had nothing but incredible things to say about it. I may move it closer down, but right now I can’t be sure so I trust my teams judgement when it comes to this. If you think differently, let me know down in the comment section.
5. The Flash
The Flash had a rocky seasons 4 and 5 with The Thinker and Cicada and the show lost many viewers because of the bad writing and story then comes season 6 which introduced us to Bloodwork AKA Ramsey Rosso. No one knew what to expect from this character but the new showrunner wrote him insanely well and he ended up being one of the greatest villains on the show.
4. Arrow
Up, down, up, then down again. That’s the usual spin on Arrow. Seasons 1-3 = perfect. Season 4-6 = less than desirable. However, the back end of season 7, and thus far in the final season has been great. This season deserves the biggest mention as each episode is just coming closer, and closer to Oliver’s demise and you know it’s going to be depressing. I couldn’t have asked for better episodes so far in the final season, and I’m excited yet reluctant to let go in the final 3 episodes.
3. The Boys
This season was one I never expected to be anything special, but boy was it?! It was phenomenal. Literally to the point I binge watched every episode. This season brought something completely different to the table where it comes to “superheroes”. It was R rated, brutal, and just outright madness. The story mad sense, and the writing was perfect. Each character suited their respective roles, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I’m excited to see the craziness continue when the imminent season 2 drops to our televisions.
2. TITANS
What an incredible run of television season 2 was. It’s a mixed bag with a lot of people, but for us, we couldn’t get enough. There was so many things to love about this season, and I can only imagine that it’s going to get better, and better. There was some downplayed moments which is why it fell back to almost third, such as Donna’s death, but the rest just lived up to the hype. A huge improvement on the first season, and I hope season 3 further improves on season 2. Slade to say, we can’t wait! (Pun was absolutely intended)
1. The Mandalorian
I put this number 1 for 2019, but this is perhaps one of the best TV series, ever, period. It’s so well written, well directed, produced, everything about this is show is perfect. It shows the true potential the Star Wars universe truly has. Every character feels uniquely written, and of course, Baby Yoda exploded social media extremely quickly. It’s already renewed for season 2, and rightly so. I know myself, and many others are still beyond excited for the finale this week. I can’t see it being anything other than spectacular.
And there you have it! Feel different about my list, anything you would list differently? Let me know your list down in the comment section, I am massively intrigued to see what people thought of this years comic shows.
