The Flash “It’s My Party and I’ll Die If I Want To” Review

Season 9 Episode 9 – Team Flash throws a surprise birthday party for Barry, but things go terribly awry when Ramsey Rosso crashes the festivities.

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. It’s nice to see both Diggle and Wally back. It’s for Barry’s surprise birthday party, granted, but it’s still one of those moments that just feels good.

2. The return of Bloodwork. The villain was so underrated due to the fact he didn’t get enough time during his run. It’s great to see him back in the season, even better is that he just spikes everyone’s drinks so they collapse with the exception of Barry, Chester, and technically Iris.

3. The episode has taken a very dark turn. More so when Ramsey is controlling and manipulating everyone, it even gets to the point where Wally kills Barry. I wasn’t expecting this episode to be as dark as this.

4. Oliver Queen is back! Well, technically. It’s so damn good to see Stephen Amell back as Oliver in the Arrowverse. We even get answers from Crisis which are badly needed.

5. As Chester is about to die a horrific death, Khione saves his life by using her powers to freeze the water in everyone’s body. Pretty clever and a pretty good entrance from her. I really liked that.

6. We learn that almost everyone from Arrow was actually brought back. When Oliver gained power from Spectre, he brought back Moria, Tommy, and others. He however never brought his father back. This was really interesting to hear. This is what the final season of Arrow should’ve been.

7. As Oliver is about to go against Ramsey one-on-one, Diggle is back in full Spartan gear. He and Oliver share a brief beautiful moment before Bloodwork goes full Nemesis. We then get a “you have failed this city” line before Ramsey is defeated. Incredible.

8. Another emotional moment. Oliver and John finally say goodbye. We also learn about the “cube” which is more of a cop-out due to the failed Green Lantern ark. Nonetheless, it was still nice to close that out and more so to get a proper goodbye.

What I Disliked

This episode truly cemented that Crisis is and was a complete waste of time. It’s now officially been made into nothing but a small blip in the timeline and the only thing that’s remained consistent throughout is the fact Oliver is Spectre. There’s been a lot of Arrowverse mistakes, Crisis is the biggest one.

Favorite Moment

Oliver is back in full Green Arrow costume and in one of the best action sequences The Flash has had in years. YES! That’s the like. That’s what we’ve all waited for.

Standout Character

It’s obviously got to be Oliver. There’s no question about it. I don’t need to say much more than I’ve already said but it was incredible to see Stephen Amell back.

Verdict

Perhaps one of the best episodes of The Flash for a long, long time. Stephen Amell and David Ramsey returning to their respective roles made the episode infinitely better. I’m hoping this level of quality continues into the final few episodes.
