Why I’m Excited for Ahsoka

Since 2019’s Rise of Skywalker, we’ve only had Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and three seasons of The Mandalorian when it comes to live-action content. Not all of that has been well received either.

There’s no denying that The Mandalorian is one of the best series to ever embrace our screens. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have made the show what it is, even to the point people claimed the show was carrying the entire Star Wars franchise on its back during seasons 1 and 2.

In August, we’re about to receive Ahsoka. The first standalone show that’s dedicated to Ahsoka Tano, portrayed by Rosario Dawson.

If you have missed the trailer, then here you go;

I fully believe the Ahsoka series is going to set a brand new high when it comes to the Star Wars franchise. Here’s why I think so and why I’m excited about the show.

1. Lightsabers

I prefer lightsabers in anything relating to Star Wars. Ahsoka duel-wields her sabers, white in color which we know she reverses bled the crystals from the Inquisitor. That’s how they’re white. She has one of the nicest lightsabers and white in live-action just looks incredible. We’re obviously going to see a fair amount of saber content which I am all for.

2. Rebels and Thrawn

Ahsoka will be set after the events of Return of the Jedi. We already know Grand Admiral Thrawn is returning and will be portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen which we’re super excited for. We also know Ezra has been cast and will be portrayed by Eman Esfandi.

The third season of The Mandalorian has already teased the return of Thrawn. This will be executed in full form when it comes to the Ahsoka series. We don’t know how the return will look like or what it will entail, but with Dave Filoni at the center of the show, we have a gut feeling it’s going to be absolutely perfect.

It’s just better simply because it’s going to fully tie into the animated Rebels show. We’ve already had Zeb shown in The Mandalorian, it’s very likely Zeb will play a part in the upcoming show as well.

3. Flashbacks and Anakin Skywalker

Not a lot of people know that Ahsoka was actually Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice. I’ve spoken to several casual fans who have no idea where she comes from. I feel like this show is going to answer a lot of questions in regard to the Ahsoka character. We’re being told we’ll get flashbacks from the Clone Wars with Anakin also playing a part. It’s even better that Hayden Christensen will be returning to his role once again as Anakin Skywalker in the show which we’re all for.

4. Different versions of Ahsoka Tano

We’re going to see a multitude of versions when it comes to Ahsoka. We’ve already touched base on the Clone Wars version when she was a part of the Jedi Order. We’ll see her when she was with Rebels, the current version, and more. It’s this that I like. We’ll see solid character development for her. This is much better for the casual fans as they will get to know her in much better detail instead of the odd scene in The Mandalorian.

5. Rosario Dawson

When the cast is right, the excitement piques. When Rosario was first cast as Ahsoka, we knew this was the perfect casting. She showcased this in multiple scenes during The Mandalorian. Just look at how her first-ever live-action scene was. If you’ve forgotten, let me remind you;

She’s literally Ahsoka. She looks like her, she acts like her, she fights like her. We can’t wait to get a full season of her in action.

6. Villains with the “orange-red” lightsabers

When we watched the trailer the first time, we were confused when we saw the villains with red/orange sabers that didn’t look fully red. Looking further into this after Filoni mentioned this. It seems like he’s kind of gone back to the days when the original films first came out, where Vader’s saber looked a bit more orange. He’s done this intentionally and said that “it’s identifying a little bit of something”.

Most fans have come to the conclusion that these villains may have not fully bled their kyber crystals yet. Regardless though, it’s intriguing. I’m even more curious after Dave’s comments on the matter. It leads me to believe there’s something going on there and I can’t wait to really see what that is.

Ahsoka will be released exclusively on Disney+ in August this year.
