Generally, when referring to comic video games, I am including any franchise that falls under this genre, such as Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and so on. I would like to share my top 5 picks that I am most excited about, along with my reasons for choosing them.
1. Spider-Man 2
Personally, I am highly anticipating this game. The first installment and the Miles Morales spinoff were both thoroughly enjoyable to me. I liked them so much that I obtained platinum trophies for both the PS4 and PS5 versions.
Insomniac has done an amazing job with the trailers and marketing so far, and I have a feeling this game will surpass Jedi: Survivor for me. It might even be a strong contender for game of the year.
2. Star Wars Eclipse
I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming game from Quantic Dream, the same team responsible for Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human. As a devoted Star Wars enthusiast, I’m particularly thrilled about the unique approach that Quantic Dream takes in designing its games.
Quantic Dream games are similar to Telltale games but with a unique interactive twist. With multiple endings and the ability to make choices throughout the game, every decision you make can have a significant impact on the outcome. Even the smallest choices can make a big difference. Although the release date is still a few years away, I can’t wait for this one.
3. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake
The KOTOR remake has faced significant challenges since the release of its first cinematic trailer at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase event. Initially, Aspyr Media was developing the game, but production suddenly came to a halt last year. The project is now being handled by Saber Entertainment, but updates on its progress have been discouraging.
Several high-profile news companies have noted that the KOTOR game is still in development despite rumors to the contrary. This report has given fans hope for further news about the game. KOTOR remains a beloved franchise, even after many years have passed since its initial release.
4. Iron Man
Although there isn’t much news to report, it has been announced that EA is partnering with Marvel Studios to develop a new game. While Iron Man has had successful games in the past, the involvement of EA may raise some concerns. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic about the upcoming release.
As a big fan of Iron Man, I am excited about the potential of a detailed and expansive game. If the game includes options for customizing suits, different suit types, upgrades and an open-world experience, it could be a huge success. EA has demonstrated its ability to produce quality games through partnerships, as evidenced by the Jedi series.
5. Black Panther
This game is a single-player action-adventure, but details are scarce as it has just been announced. Marvel Studios is partnering with EA’s studio, Cliffhanger, on this project, which shows a level of trust as EA and Marvel have partnered not just for one game, but two.
I’ve always had a strong desire for a stand-alone game featuring Panther. This desire was further intensified after the character was introduced in the Marvel Avengers game created by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics. There are so many possibilities for what they could do with the Black Panther mantle and the setting of Wakanda.
Honorable mention – Wolverine
I included this in my honorable mention for one specific reason: I am not a big fan of Wolverine. However, I chose to include it because the game is being developed by Insomniac, who did an excellent job with the Spider-Man series.
Since Insomniac is behind the development of the game, I’ll definitely be purchasing it on day one or as a pre-order. I’m willing to keep an open mind and hope to see a spectacular portrayal of Wolverine in the gaming world.
