Star Wars hasn’t had the best run since Disney took over in 2012. There have been some highs and some lows as well. Regardless, I am just happy we’re being hit with content in different ways.
One of those highs is Ahsoka. Dave Filoni has overseen this project and the show has done that well, people are calling for him to take over Kathleen Kennedy. Rightfully so. Dave Filoni just gets it. The mix of Canon and Legends adds a high level of entertainment to all of the shows he’s done so far.
So far, we’ve had Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, and now Ahsoka when it comes to live-action Star Wars shows. Only one of those has received a subsequent season following its first, The Mandalorian.
Ahsoka needs to have a greenlit second season even before the finale has even been released. If Thrawn survives, there is so much you can do with even 2 more seasons with him as the big bad guy.
After all, if he manages to return back, he is the heir to the Empire. We’ve already seen Hera struggle to connect with the New Republic. We’ve seen this type of disconnection in The Mandalorian as well. So there’s another aspect to explore within the season.
You have Zeb still to be reintroduced and effectively you have a live-action Rebels show. Granted, the show is called Ahsoka but it can be so much more than that. The foundations are there and the casts are all perfect so why not? Why not make Ahsoka the next type of Mandalorian in regards to it being a flagship show?
I was excited for Ahsoka because I’ve learned much about her but never watched more than a couple of seasons of Rebels. Even based on the things I heard from those that did, the show got me overly excited and so far, the show has far exceeded my already high expectations. This is even before the finale has been released so that speaks so much to me as a fan.
It’s not like Obi-Wan Kenobi in a sense for a second season. With Kenobi (as much as I loved the show) there isn’t a whole lot more you can do unless you begin incorporating other characters such as Cal Kestis. Whereas with Ahsoka, you have so much you can do with the foundations Dave Filoni has already built. I’d be very surprised if a script isn’t already in the works or if a second season has been given the green light behind the scenes.
For me, Ahsoka is the peak of Star Wars. When I think of Star Wars I think of Jedi, lightsabers, space battles, Stormtroopers, and other aspects but Ahsoka includes it all. I love The Mandalorian but so far, if Ahsoka can manage to pop the finale, I fully believe Ahsoka will overtake Mandalorian for the top Star Wars show and I never thought that show could even be toppled.
What do you think? Do you think Ahsoka should get a second season? Let me know in the comments below. *Comments are only open for 14 days post-article release.
