Earlier this week, the finale for Ahsoka aired and delivered a fantastic finale episode and even left a tease of a season 2. With the finale leaving many questions, a major one is what about Baylan Skoll and his story?
If you didn’t know, Ray Stevenson who gave an incredible portrayal of Baylan Skoll throughout the season passed away before the series began to air so he didn’t get to witness the reaction and love that his character received. It was nearly everywhere where I would see social media posts praising him.
What will Disney do for that story? Will they leave it as it ended or will they recast?
Now I absolutely loved Ray in this role, he captivated the role and truly made it his. His presence within the show didn’t go unnoticed—he was a sophisticated dark Jedi with a unique way of getting the things he needed. Allow him to do his business and you’ll potentially be fine, stand in his way, and be struck down, as seen in the first scene of the series.
I would personally recast the role if I’m being honest. It seems as though the story Baylan is on is simply too important to leave as it ended, with Baylan looking into the distance to a bright light that was calling him. The Mortis Gods seem to be calling him, could they play a part in the second series? Sure.
Having Baylan mention this other power throughout the entire season just for them to leave it would be such a waste, especially for a character like Baylan. We need to see this play out.
Most importantly, fans need to see the story Ray started to be finished.
I have such a great recasting if it was to be recast. Graham McTavish would make for such a great replacement. Graham McTavish is Scottish and has a similar build and tone to his voice, all we’d truly need to see is some grey hair, and it would not be such a far-fetched recasting, we’ve seen worse recastings.
Honestly, I hope we see Baylan again, I hope we get to see the Mortis Gods in live-action, and more importantly, I hope we see Ray’s legacy live on.
