Recently news came to light that fan-favorite actor, Steven Yeun, has dropped out of the upcoming Marvel movie “Thunderbolts”. Now, Steven has released a statement regarding his decision to leave the Marvel project.
While celebrating the opening of the Louis Vuitton pop-up in West Hollywood on Wednesday night, Variety spoke to Steven and he cited last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike as one reason behind the dropout.
Yeun stated “I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it,” Yeun explained. “But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.” he also said, “I wanna do a Marvel movie.”
Steven Yeun’s involvement in the upcoming Marvel flick was first reported back in February, although Marvel never officially confirmed the casting, it was reportedly spoiled by Robert Kirkman that Yeun was portraying Sentry.
Thunderbolts paused production in May due to the WGA strike and has yet to begin filming following the end of the Hollywood strikes.
Yeun also revealed that it “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out,” when asked what Marvel movie he would like to work on in the future, he replied “I think it’s too early to say that. I probably pissed off too many people leaving, so I’m just gonna say, ‘Thank you for having me.’”
He also teased “I have some ideas, But I heard if you put it out there, you’ll never get it, so I’ll keep it close to my chest.”
