So, the State of Play Wasn’t Great. Was it to be Expected?

I always look forward to PlayStation’s State of Play event where new trailers are shown and announcements are made.

There have been a couple of years here and there that haven’t been great, but 2024 was one of the worst years. Granted, some of the games looked good, I’m not denying that, but there were no spectacles. Here’s my 2 pence on it.

2023 was one of the biggest years in gaming that I can remember. It’s safe to say we’re set for a slow 2024 and a possibly slowish 2025 (except GTA 6).

I did however at least expect to see some teasers shown for the Spider-Man 2 DLC or even another teaser for Quantic Dream’s Star Wars game.

Here is a list of the big games that were showcased;

  1. Helldivers 2
  2. Rise of the Ronin
  3. Stellar Blade
  4. Sonic Shadow Generations
  5. Zenless Zone Zero
  6. Foamstars
  7. Dave The Diver x Godzilla
  8. V Rising
  9. Silent Hill: The Short Message
  10. Silent Hill 2 Remake
  11. Judas
  12. Metro: Awakening VR
  13. Legendary Tales

I think in all fairness, 2023 is not going to be topped for a while. When you think about it, we had Hogwarts, Spider-Man 2, Starfield (Xbox exclusive), Jedi: Survivor, Baldur’s Gate 3, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and many others. It was a year to behold so it was only natural the events were going to be a bit slower than usual.

Now, the event-sucking isn’t always a bad thing. We have to remember that the State of Play event is predominately PlayStation exclusives. The event may not have sucked for another person who loved what they saw and that’s fine. None of the games shown were my cup of tea and that’s okay. This is the beauty of gaming that we get so many diverse and brilliant projects.
