Star Wars: The Acolyte “Teach/Corrupt” Review

Season 1 Episode 6 – “On a distant island, unsettling questions about identity and destiny arise.”

What I Liked

1. I do absolutely like the way Qimir presents himself, walks, and speaks. It’s like he’s a bad guy but not in the common sense that other bad buys in Star Wars are, he’s more sophisticated, more sort of laid back, and not truly egotistical but he knows his power limit, he knows what he can and can not do. I do not know if this is how he is written or if this is just simply how the actor is portraying this side of his character.

2. Qimir explains to Osha that the Jedi only teach what they want essentially. He mentions a whole range of deeper emotions, fear, anger, and desire. Osha mentions that this is the path to the dark side but Qimir passes it off as semantics.

3. Qimir wants the power of two. He shows Osha his scars on his back. He mentions that the scars were from someone who threw him away to which Osha responds “You’re Jedi master?”. Qimir also tells Osha to try on his helmet and explains that it has a feature like the training helmets they used and that it is resistant to lightsabers.

4. We get to see Vernestra Rwoh ask another Jedi about what happened here meaning to the fallen Jedi to which the Jedi responds “A powerful Jedi has turned” So I do like how they are slowly coming around to admitting that a powerful Jedi has turned and is killing Jedi. We also get to see Vernestra Rwoh use her lightsaber whip. Which looked amazing.

5. I want to know what Master Sol is doing. He turns off the transponder and goes into hyper space while the Jedi arrive.

What I Disliked

I get that Master Sol is pretty much grieving over the loss of his entire team right but how can a master of his stature not sense that this is not Osha and is Mae? Like it’s been proven throughout the episodes that he is quite powerful and can sense stuff quite easily so is this just grief that is causing him not to feel the change or what?

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would be Osha trying on Qimir’s helmet. It felt like a mix of Kylo Ren and Darth Vader’s breathing. It also reminded me of the scene where Vader first gets the helmet put on. Could this lead to Osha turning to the dark side and Mae becoming a light side user?

Standout Character

The standout character was definitely Qimir. I loved the way he explained things to Osha, how he was simply laid back and allowed Osha to do whatever she wanted.

Verdict

Honestly, I went into this episode expecting it to be slow and that is what it was. The episode was slow and had little to no action. Which is what I expected after the intense episode last week. This was very much a filler episode to allow the Jedi to do an investigation and deal with the fallout.
