Outlaws is set to be released on August 30th, and I must admit I am not excited about this game. I’m even torn on whether or not to pre-order this and that’s coming from a huge Star Wars fan.
To put that comment into perspective, this is why:
That video alone has an 88% dislike rate, with around 91,000 dislikes and it’s easy to see why.
Nothing about that 10 minutes of gameplay feels special. Even Battlefront 1 looks like it has better shooting mechanics and that game came out in 2015.
I don’t doubt that the game may have a good story as that hasn’t been presented enough to judge it so early on but we can certainly judge what we’ve seen so far. That footage IGN released is too late for anything to drastically change so what we see there is what we’ll get.
We do know that the game is set within the Skywalker era, between episodes 5 and 6 which means they don’t have a lot of creative control with the entire story.
The thing is, Ubisoft has been less than desirable for years. I can’t think of a game released in the last few years that has blown me away. Their games all feel the same slapped with a new skin and I do not doubt in my mind that Outlaws will feel the same.
When it comes to the Star Wars franchise, the expectations are high as is always the case when it comes to Star Wars fans. I have a feeling this will flop and I’m glad it will. We as video games fans especially have dealt with some atrocious content that feels like it’s not made for the fans but otherwise to make a quick buck. Outlaws feels like this.
I understand there’s going to be no lightsaber content, I was okay with this. If I want lightsaber content I’ll play Survivor or Fallen Order. However, this game could’ve gone down a different route. It’s like watching a bounty hunter that isn’t a bounty hunter so why didn’t they just opt to make a bounty hunter game?
The graphics look less than desirable, the movement and the mechanics don’t feel any different to a PS3/Xbox 360 video game and that’s one of my main issues with this game. I never expected Ubisoft to set the world alight but with the entire lore at their fingertips, I figured they could do something else with this.
The sad thing is, I’ll probably buy it on day 1 and be part of the problem anyway because I have zero self-control when it comes to video games. It won’t stop me complaining about it either though.
All in all, though, I do hope the game surprises me. I guess I’ve just been let down too many times before to have any hope.
What do you think? Do you think the game will be any good or are you disappointed with what we have seen so far? Let me know in the comments below.
