Agatha All Along “Familiar by Thy Side” Review

Season 1 Episode 6 – Familiar Teen is much more than he seems, and his connections to the rest of the coven are revealed.

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. We see the impact of the Westview fight between Wanda and Agatha. Although we don’t directly see them fight, see the red dome-like thing appear as William and his family attempt to drive away. The Mom crashes the car leaving William seemingly dead. It would appear as though when Billy and Tommy disappeared, they took over other’s bodies in this case Billy took over William’s. This counters my point in my last review when I mentioned they look nothing alike. This now makes sense. A great opening scene.

2. We’re in a flashback episode but we now catch up to the point William broke into Agatha’s house. Once William returns to Agatha’s house after being caught is hilarious. William knows exactly who Agatha is but she’s still stuck in this world as a detective. It’s hilarious.

3. The sigil stopping William from telling anybody who he is was revealed. He actually does initially tell Agatha he’s William but then when she asks him to say it again, he replies with; “Billy Maximoff”. It’s crazy to think he did try to tell her so early on but because of the sigil, it didn’t register.

4. Agatha didn’t stay in the ground very long as we eventually circle back around to where the last episode finished. They’re off to the next trial, seemingly just the two of them but the cats are out of the bag now. Billy straight up tells Agatha he doesn’t trust her or ever will. We also now know Billy’s looking for his brother, Tommy and that’s why he’s on the Witch’s Road. I’m looking forward to the next episode that’s for sure.

What I Disliked

I think my dislike here is the fact we’re 6 episodes in and still yet to truly get to the point of this entire show. There’s still at least 1 more trial to go through and we’ve seen limited magic being used which is ironic considering this is a show about witches. There are only 3 episodes left at this point so I’m a bit concerned they’re dragging this on more than they need to.

Favorite Moment

William meets a stranger who knows about Westview’s events. It’s intriguing to get another perspective of someone who lived through that. When we watch WandaVision we picture Wanda as the hero but in reality, she’s every bit of a villain as she is in Doctor Strange 2. This stranger does confirm to William that Wanda had twins and explained the powers which made William realize even further. It’s an interesting take that makes me want to watch WandaVision again. To make this scene even better, the stranger is none other than Ralph Boner, Quicksilver himself. It took me a moment or two to catch on.

Standout Character

William takes it in this episode purely because he is the only character this episode focuses on. Whilst he was very good there’s no question, there was no competition for him in this spot.

Verdict

The biggest issue I have with these types of episodes is that they always come right after a huge reveal. It’s frustrating and it’s annoying. I understand the need now to explain who Teen/William/Billy/Wiccan is but they didn’t need to dedicate a full-blown episode to this. Now we have 3 episodes left in a show that’s unlikely to get a second season so it’s more time wasted and we’re still yet to see Agatha regain her powers.
