What Marvel Needs To Do With Blade With The Indefinitely Delayed Announcement

If you didn’t see it the Blade movie that Marvel Studios were in the early stages of has been removed from the 2025 release schedule and will not be released on the November 7, 2025 release date that it had.

The movie, which was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con way back in 2019 was revealed to have 2x Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as the lead character. Obviously with the pandemic and global delays, the production and development was on hold.

The project has seen two directors, Bassam Tariq, and then Yann Demange join the project as director. Mia Goth is reportedly playing the supervillain “Lilith” in the movie and she spoke to Deadline about the delay “Marvel really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense I get from them and that feels good.”

Marvel boss Kevin Feige said it’s important to make the best Blade movie ever. The Studio won’t make the movie until they have cracked the script. Which is a fair point.

For me, this major delay is a key sign to start the project from scratch. Take the time to find the right director, the right writers to write a fantastic script and go from there. Leave the casting to a later stage but focus on the director and writers first.

Now, what to do with Mahershala Ali? While Mahershala is a fantastic actor, there is no doubt about his talent and the range that he gets within projects, but I think it’s time for him to step aside and allow Marvel to bring in someone much younger.

Mahershala is 50 years old. While we do have some older actors within the Marvel umbrella, I feel like with the stuff that they want to do with Blade, let’s be honest, it isn’t just a one-and-done film. It’s a franchise, with multiple appearances.

Marvel bringing in a younger actor as Blade will be the best option, especially for Mahershala. By the time they get the film going, enter production, post-production and release the movie it’ll be near enough 5-6 years down the line.

It’s time for Marvel to start fresh with the movie. From the ground up again. It’s the only thing that will work for Blade at this current stage.
