Superman & Lois “Sharp Dressed Man” Review

Season 4 Episode 8 – Luthor challenges Lois to a live telecast debate, though not everything is as it seems; John Henry and Clark face a troubling possibility.

What I Liked

1. Lex shaves the beard and now he looks like he’s been ripped out of a comic book. I wasn’t expecting this opening at all, I honestly really like that look.

2. John and Natalie return and are fairly quickly back in the suit. They make a save after a man overturns his car with the car on fire. It’s sometimes nice to see these small saves in amongst the series. We don’t get them often enough if I’m being honest even though this particular save wasn’t all it appeared to be once the episode progressed.

3. Lois is clear from her treatment which was a nice touching moment. The entirety of last season was focused on her breast cancer diagnosis so it’s great to see this come full circle despite the fact there’s still a final surgery to be done.

4. Why is Harrison Wells the one who’s interviewing Lex? I’m not going to lie, I’m overjoyed to see him back. Despite the multiple versions of Harrison he played in The Flash, I’ll never not like having Tom Cavanagh in a CW show.

5. Lex being 10 steps ahead is what Lex does. Clark tried to warn Lois not to go through the debate but she still did. It turns out that Lex set up his fight with Clark to play the victim, which was shown during the live debate. Lois does have one trick up her sleeve with Lex’s daughter but the man John saved earlier has other plans.

6. It took me a hot minute to realize what was going on but the genius that is Lex continues to be shown. They went for John and his suit because Lex needs a “killer suit”. I’m intrigued to see Lex will upgrade that suit and make it his own. I’m a little sad that John has lost his suit but I hope he manages to rebuild another.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

John’s suit is hacked and it jumps on him then heads towards the live debate. Natalie’s suit heads towards Jon and Jordan whilst Clark fights John’s suit. Jon and Jordan both use laser vision to take out Natalie’s suit which is an incredible moment in and of itself. Superman continues the fight against John’s suit. This entire sequence was intense and incredibly well done.

Standout Character

I think due to the plan made and the unnerving nature it has to be Lex. He didn’t do more than sit down at an interview and debate but it was the intensity of those scenes that truly made it stand out. There is also the feeling of knowing what is coming next and I’m all for that.

Verdict

The CW has done a great job with Superman and Lois this season. It’s one of those shows that has to be a contender for show of the year. This episode had pretty much everything you could want from a superhero show. Some emotional moments, action, feel-good scenes and so much more. A solid episode that leads perfectly into the final 2.
