Over the course of the last few months, we’ve been getting some movement on the Green Lantern TV series that DC is creating. The series will be the first live-action project on TV from the reboot DC universe that James Gunn has created.
Why am I excited about this project? Firstly, after literally years of not hearing anything about the previous incarnation of the Green Lantern show, it’s just nice to finally have some movement on the series which finally feels like it is real and the background people truly care about the series.
There seems to be a great push for the Lanterns within this new universe that James has created and I’m all for that! Within the previous DCEU, the Lanterns were forgotten about. The only true story for the Lanterns was within the DCTV universe where even then, it was only minuscule mentions.
We had that story revolving around David Ramsey that he would take up the mantle of Jon Stewart. Ultimately, that story was a waste of many episodes within different DC TV shows. We previously had some teases for Hal within The Flash and Arrow CW shows.
The major thing I’m excited to see is how Aaron Pierre will play the role of Jon Stewart. I watched him in Rebel Ridge and he acted so incredibly throughout that film that I instantly thought of him as Jon Stewart. The series looks like it is set to have Jon as a rookie in the corps so there is always the option to see him grow into one of the most powerful Green Lanterns ever.
Lastly, I’m excited to see the Lanterns. The mythos of the Lanterns has always fascinated me. The story of each emotion has its own corp. With this first series as well as having Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman movie means that there are ample stories to do involving the Green Lanterns from introducing Kyle Rayner to Sinestro and more.
I’m excited for it, I believe James Gunn will craft the right ingredients to bring a fantastic show to live-action and truly do justice for the Green Lanterns.
