What I Liked
1. What an opening to this episode. It really didn’t let off from the last episode. John is hit, Superman is fighting Doomsday, and Jordan and Jon are trying what they can to help. There’s so much going on it’s difficult to put into words but my god, this may be one of the best opening moments to a CW DC show.
2. Lex attempts to kill Amanda and has no chill about it either. He flies behind her car and shoots a missile towards it. Thankfully she’s saved but we’re seeing a completely different version of him compared to before. This is easily the best version of Lex in a live-action setting we’ve seen.
3. Doomsday’s end comes after John’s hammer knocks him out in Main Street. We know Bizarro is weak to the yellow sun so Clark takes him there to end it finally. We get a touching moment as Bizarro begins to remember and accept his end. I do wonder why Superman didn’t do this in the first place. However, as Superman is still standing by the sun he appears to heal and gets his hearing back. Is this One Million Superman? I hope so.
4. Lois stands up to Lex after he grabs Jordan. The way she shouts at him is inspiring and so damn intense. “Clark didn’t have powers when he beat your ass all over this street”. Beautiful Lois, beautiful.
5. Jordan heads to find Jon who’s lying there dead. Jordan rushes to save his life performing CPR. After being successful, “Please don’t leave me” / “I promise I won’t”. Honestly, this episode!
6. A year passes after Lex is defeated. To no surprise with how the episode began between Lana and John, they’re getting married. Lois officiates the wedding and provides an emotional speech for them both. A fitting and beautiful way to bridge the end of the Arrowverse.
7. Lex goes to prison. This time though it’s not the same as last time, Bruno is the one in charge. I love that this is how it ended for Lex coming full circle in the end and also giving Bruno one last hoorah moment.
8. Jordan and Jon finally get new suits after Clark explains what’s happened over the years. I do wish we got these a little sooner but I’m thankful we did at least get to see this, even briefly. We do actually get a couple of scenes seeing them grown up with children and wives. A touching way to end what’s been an exceptional series.
9. The emotions run higher, as Clark is explaining the years, we find out that in the end, Lois’ cancer returns and this time it’s too much. Jordan and Jon are both present at the end alongside Clark. I swear someone is cutting onions very close to me or perhaps there’s a gust of dust brushing on by me because that was incredibly emotional.
10. The emotions don’t stop there either as we get a run-through of Clark’s death. Seeing him with Krypto and trying to move on with life, his time also comes to an end. Although it’s emotional, Clark is ready for it. I loved how this ended, the explanation of time afterward. I think a lot of the CW DC shows could’ve benefitted from this because it stops any doubt of a comeback, it allows the show to end the way it should, a full circle. One of the best endings to a TV show I have ever seen.
11. Thank you, CW.
What I Disliked
There wasn’t a single thing to dislike in this episode.
Favorite Moment
It’s very difficult to decide on a favorite moment here, but I think the Superman vs. Lex fight was so long overdue that it felt satisfying. Clark is hit with Kryptonite until he manages to give everything he can to pull it out. He then doesn’t let up once he gets it out; he goes on the offensive but does so aggressively. He eventually defeats Lex in a short fight, but it is bittersweet.
What a moment, what a scene, what a fight!
Standout Character
As I was reviewing this episode, the standout character often came to mind but I believe it’s Superman. Tyler Hoechlin is a special man and deserves to be talked about when we discuss the best live-action Superman. From the fight with Doomsday to Lex and to then walking us through the final years of his life was beautiful. A special, special man.
Verdict
I’m going out on a limb here and I will be happy to say this was the best episode The CW ever produced in all of their DC shows. This episode was intense, it was emotional, it was beautiful, it was everything you could ever want from a superhero show. I am so unbelievably sad that this is it but thank you to all of the amazing cast for giving us this special project over the years. This is a show I will introduce my son to when he’s a little older and understands.
