Why I Am Excited For Mafia: The Old Country Video Game

Mafia: The Old Country is a game releasing in the summer of 2025. It’s the origins of the Mafia video games series and more importantly, set within the early days of the Mafia. With this being a prequel to the first Mafia game, this also means that it’s the fourth and hopefully not final game in the series.

I love the Mafia video game series. Mafia 2 is up there as one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. You can imagine my excitement when this game first got announced and this excited got even higher with the cinematic trailer as seen above.

Why am I excited for this game though? Well, it’s easy. The game is based in Sicily in the 1900s in the fictional town of San Celeste, a town that was previously seen in Mafia 2. As mentioned above, this game will also focus on the origins of the Mafia.

The game’s narrative follows a new protagonist Enzo Favara, who journeys from a childhood of indentured labor in the sulfur mines to joining the Torrisi crime family. Seeing the game go back to the times of having to join the Mafia is what this franchise needed.

Another reason I’m excited is the game is returning to the linear, narrative-driven, third-person game set in cinematic environments. This game becomes more in alignment with the first two Mafia games rather than what Mafia 3 did with that game trying the open-world aspect of gaming.

I can not wait to get my hands on the game in the summer of 2025. This is straight up there with the likes of Grand Theft Auto 6 for the most anticipated game.
