It is another year for Sony and another State of Play. I’ll be honest, that entire event was poor. It didn’t provide anything spectacular that truly got me off my seat. Perhaps mostly excited for the Days Gone Remaster and the Mindseye game looked pretty decent.
I wasn’t coming into this event expecting a GTA 6 trailer or something huge but I at least expected something from Insomniac. More specifically, Wolverine.
We’ve had absolutely nothing from Insomniac since the reveal trailer back in September 2021 at the PlayStation Showcase. At this point, I feel nothing but let down from Insomniac. We had no DLC content for Spider-Man 2 which was also met with radio silence and not an ounce of anything about what’s next.
I know Insomniac has had a rough time lately with their content and projects being leaked. They even had an early alpha build of the game leaked as well which isn’t great but it’s been over 3 years since we’ve had anything directly from Insomniac regarding this. No trailers, no news, nothing.
I watched this event with a few friends and they were fairly hopeful of a Wolverine trailer but again, nothing. Insomniac’s roadmap was supposed to include this game, Venom, and other content moving to 2030 at least. I’ll be surprised if this isn’t pushed back or plans have been changed. It feels like since the leaks, it’s gone dead.
I’m not here to complain, I’ve said it before – I trust Insomniac. They have earned that from how great they’ve been with the Spider-Man franchise, but their constant silence is disheartening above all else. I’m a huge fan of Wolverine so since this game was announced, every event, I’m hopeful for even a snippet of news or anything but event after event, there’s nothing.
Maybe we’ll look forward to the next PlayStation Showcase event and see if anything comes from there as this State of Play event was extremely disappointing. All of the friends I watched with weren’t impressed as well. There’s usually a solid surprise or two when it comes to these events and we didn’t get any of that.
I am super happy that Days Gone is getting a remaster though. It’s one of the best zombie apocalypse games I’ve ever played and I hope this remaster does well so a sequel can be put back on the table.
