Both sets of movies are set for release in 2026 and I am generally looking forward to both. I’m excited to see Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doom but I’m also curious to see how Peter’s life is after the events of No Way Home.
I have no doubt that both of these films will be monumental successes, but with Spider-Man, I’m honestly looking forward to this film more for a number of reasons.
First up, I feel like there isn’t enough time to build up for the next Avengers movie. We’ve had Captain America: Brave New World, which only mentioned the possibility of starting up the Avengers again.
From there, we have Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four coming out this year. Spider-Man 4 has a penciled release date of July 31st, 2026, so this may also come prior to Doomsday, but I’m nervous as well as excited for it.
For the Avengers, we had this huge build-up for Kang until Jonathan Majors ultimately lost his position. Kang was supposed to be the next big bad of the MCU and everything was building towards that. Due to obvious reasons, it’s meant Disney and Marvel have had to pivot in a huge way. Bringing Downey Jr back into the fold does feel like a cover up, but I always preferred Doom as the major antagonist anyway.
I fear the timing. That’s it. I’m happy we’re getting more Avengers content. I just hope they can do it justice. The entire structure of the MCU has felt very messy since Endgame, so I do pray they get this right.
With Spider-Man, it left on a huge cliffhanger. After the events of No Way Home, no one remembers him, including his girlfriend and best friend. For me, out of everything in the MCU, this is what I’m most hyped for.
As it stands, we have very little news regarding the movie besides the release date, but if No Way Home was anything to go by then I’m excited. I’m not expecting another multiverse journey. My thoughts will be for the first portions of it, we’ll see Peter grounded. He’ll only have himself and he’ll make do with that until things get too much.
Tom Holland (in my opinion) is the ultimate Spider-Man on the live-action front. He smashes it. We saw a completely new level of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in No Way Home. We saw a Peter Parker lose everything and very nearly lose himself in the process. Even at the end of the film as he’s jumping across the rooftops donning a brand new suit, it’s exciting.
Either way, I’d be raging if I died before both of these movies coming out but as it stands right now, Spider-Man 4 is where I’m looking to more than Avengers.
