Black Lightning “The Book of War; Chapter Three: Liberation” Review

Season 3 episode 16 “Black Lightning faces off against Gravedigger.”

What I Liked?

1. The episode begins from where last episode left off with Black Lightning going up against Gravedigger… All is going well until we see that it’s just Gravedigger buying some time for the Markovian soldiers to grab Jennifer.

2. We get to see Painkiller kill some Markovian soldiers and he grabs a sniper rifle which can kill meta’s. We later see him aiming in on Jennifer while Painkiller and Khalil fight it out, Khalil ends up getting the best of Painkiller and regaining control. I hope to see more of Khalil in season 4 because his story is enjoyable.

3. Chief Henderson and the police force have a battle against the Markovians, It doesn’t look good for Henderson until La-la and his crew saves them. Chief Henderson later on saves Black Lightning from some soldiers waiting for him but in the battle one of the meta human guns hits Henderson and we get our first meaningful death of the show.

4. Khalil waits for Odell in his car, he’s introducting himself to Odell, he tries to shut down Khalil but the codeword only works for Painkiller. Black Lightning tries to stop Khalil from killing Odell but Khalil shoots him in the spin.

5. Gravedigger survived the pit explosion… Could he be in a future season?

What I Disliked?

1. All season we’ve seen Brandon be on some type of one man mission to kill Dr Jace and it didn’t even pay off because she didn’t die by Brandons hand.

2. After the emotional and reuniting Pierce family talks, Lynn is still on Greenlight, another plot point that done a 180 on it’s self.

Favourite Moment

Seeing Jennifer and Brandon combine their powers to capture Gravedigger even for a minute until we get a epic Black Lightning and Gravedigger fight. Surprisingly seeing Lynn help out was decent too.

Standout Character

Black Lightning takes this weeks Standout character.

The Verdict

The season finale was an action packed, great scenes and overall enjoyable episode. A step in the right direction and I hope it continues into Season 4.

Rating: 8/10
