I’m not going to go too much into the absolute disaster of the Assassin’s Creed movie from 2016.
My question is should it be rebooted? Absolutely.
I’ve been replaying the games lately, and I don’t understand whatsoever how the movie could have got it just so wrong.
We’ve heard rumors in the past of the franchise going through a reboot via Disney, but of course, those rumors never backed up any real claims that this was to go ahead. Especially the source it originated from.
Now, this is where the peak of my interest is more than anything. Should it be a movie reboot? No. I believe this could really benefit from a series instead.
The Assassin’s Creed lore is huge, and I just feel like a movie will struggle to tell an entire story in that time frame, whereas a series could explore further.
They could have one story, one go, which could work. Or, they could do a story per season if that would work as well.
The issue with the movie is it explored barely anything we all know and love from the video games, that was my issue with it, I just couldn’t follow the story correctly. It was all a bit messy.
The games have had their flops, that’s no secret. However, the game built some absolute powerhouses that will live on. Altair, Ezio, Connor, Shay, Alexios/Cassandra, Bayek. There are so many characters the game’s created that intrigue me. Why couldn’t the movie live up to that?
I’ve never heard a single person tell me how great the Assassin’s Creed movie is. Ever. That worried me shortly after the release, and of course, my worries were right.
Another fear I have is because the movie did so incredibly poor overall, that any studio will be scared to even touch it. Surely, anything, ANYTHING, has to be better than what we got, right?
The Animus should always be the background story, and the Assassin(s) should be the focal point. Similar to the way it was during the Ezio trilogy. Although Desmond’s story was interesting, and I really enjoyed it, it was never on par with Ezio’s side. Although the story connected, technically they kept them separate to an extent.
I hope the story can be given justice and done right with a lot of love for it. There’s no need to over-complicate the story, just keep it simple. I think myself, and a lot of others had an issue with that in the movie. It was tough to keep track of what was actually going on.
