Why I Like Brie Larson As Captain Marvel – Unpopular Opinions #4

*We regularly have conversations that differ from the mass public opinion. Everyone has an opinion that many others don’t agree with. Please do note, this is just our opinion. We are NOT stating facts or anything. We ask you to respect this when commenting.*

Almost every other day, a news article pops up on my Facebook news feed that involves either Brie Larson, Captain Marvel, or both. Every single time, before I’ve even read the article, saw the headline and photo, I just sigh.

How does this woman get so much hate? It’s beyond me.

Now, I’ve heard of some of the comments she’s made in the past, but surely that doesn’t define a person? How did James Gunn get away with making all those jokes years ago, but everyone was calling Disney to reinstate him? It’s pure hypocrisy at times.

Just a side note, I was also one of those that wanted James to be reinstated – and I also like Brie as Captain Marvel.

Some of the articles I see slating her is just ridiculous. Some are just weird. “Disney rethinking of replacing Brie”, “Disney no longer has faith in Brie”, “Brie Larson is a lesbian”. Why would Disney even consider replacing her when the movie made over $1b?

People claim her movie was poor, that’s why they don’t like Captain Marvel. Those points are fair enough, I completely and utterly understand. If you just don’t like the portrayal then it’s each to their own, you’re entitled to your opinion and I respect that.

But if you bring in, “well she’s said this, she’s done that”, don’t even bother. Robert Downey Jr went through a really bad spell before the Iron Man role. Do you get where I’m going with this? Just because she’s said things, you can’t destroy the character based on that. Plus, she’s a feminist – I thought we all got the record now just how over the top feminists can get?

Getting to the article in question, she’s not a bad Captain Marvel. She plays the role very well. Her movie might have missed the mark just a little bit, but the sequel will more than make up for that.

Let’s not forget, she does look the part as well. She looks amazing in the suit, and even more special when she’s in binary. If you look the part, you already get a plus for that.

Some complaints I have actually seen is, “she’s too overpowered”. These are the types of people I know have never read a comic book in their life.

Yes she got overpowered by Thanos in Endgame, but it’s Thanos!! What do people not get with that? Plus he used the space stone, and she was fighting with pure rage instead of being tactful. Let’s not forget, Black Bolt once screamed full belt at Thanos and he withstood it with cracked armor.

She played the role very well in Endgame. Understandably Disney did not want to take too much away from the originals, especially ending in Captain America and Iron Man’s final movie. I get that.

Her movie was enjoyable, I know both me and my wife went a couple of days after release and really enjoyed it. It set Endgame up perfectly.

There’s just no need for unnecessary hate towards any character without a proper reason. People are too quick to judge.

Now of course this is just my own thoughts. What are yours? Do you hate Captain Marvel because of Brie, did you simply not like the movie or any other reason?
