Supergirl “The Missing Link” Review

Season 5 Episode 18 “Supergirl and the team go head-to-head against Rama Khan and Leviathan; Lena and Lex must join forces when Project Non Nocere fails, leaving the two siblings in serious danger.

What I Liked

1. Finally, Brainiac grows a pair and somewhat steps up to Lex about releasing the Sun-Eating alien thing last week. Granted, Lex mostly talked his way out of it, but it’s nice to see Brainiac slowly open his eyes to what Lex is actually up to.

2. Another reference from Lex Luthor. He mentions to Lena how he managed to turn the sun red in a bid to defeat Superman.

3. I never really took a moment to appreciate the Martian Manhunter suit, however seeing J’onn wearing it in his human form makes it stand out a lot more. Either that or it has been upgraded. Whatever it is, it looks amazing.

4. Lex actually just saved one of the prisoners from being killed. Wow. I was expecting an entire “leave him” speech to Lena.

5. Dreamer finally goes to town on Brainiac as well, the same he did with Lex. She basically tells him to pick a side. I think it was well needed because this story with Brainiac is getting old.

6. The way Lex screamed at Lena, actually frightened me. I think we should all take a second to appreciate just how well Jon Cryer portrays Lex Luthor.

7. Could we be getting a proper suit for Alex? Kelly mentions that she should be better at hiding, and if she’s going to be a vigilante then she should go all the way. I like that idea.

What I Disliked

1. That fight was lacklustre, and I’m getting tired of them underwriting J’onn. I get it, he needed to do what he had to do but there are 2 Martians. He seriously needs to be pushed more, because for a while now he just looks weak.

2. Lena takes a trip to see Kara after being made to look absolutely ridiculous by Lex. Of course, she twists again in what seems to be the 10th turn from Lena. It’s getting old.

Favourite Moment

The DEO building was finally destroyed! I really do hope this is the last we see of the DEO. I think it’s the perfect time to let it go.

Standout Character

Lex. Can it really be anybody else at the moment? When he screamed at Lena, we saw just how great of a portrayal Jon does. Not to mention proving time and time again just how many steps ahead of absolutely everything and everyone around him.

Verdict

A pleasantly surprisingly solid episode. Everything finally advanced the way that it should have. Each characters arks are now in a place that’s built them up so painfully slowly over the course of the season.
