Supergirl “Crime and Punishment” Review

Season 4 episode 18 “Kara and Lena head to Stryker’s Island to find clues that may help defeat Lex; Kelly encourages James to confide in someone about his PTSD; Alex faces off against Ben Lockwood when he takes powerful weapons from the DEO to hunt Supergirl.”

The Good & The Bad

The Good

1. We start the episode with Supergirl saving someone from a car wreck and then pedestrians try to make a citizens arrest because Supergirl is America’s most wanted and the pedestrians start shooting at Supergirl and one of the bullets deflects and hits the car and creates an explosion. This was interesting because everyone’s opinion of Supergirl has changed over night.

2. Ben Lockwood AKA Agent Liberty is now a secretary in the White House and is doing everything he can to trap and capture Supergirl. We see him take powerful weapons to capture Supergirl and this leads to Lockwood butting heads with Coronal Haley and Director Danvers.

Throughout the episode Alex is trying to talk to Coronal Haley about Supergirl and this leads to Coronal Haley changing her mind about trapping Supergirl and let’s her know it’s a trap and we come to find out the reason she did was because her daughter had a panic attack because her favorite teacher is an alien and has went into hiding. She is slowly coming to Supergirl’s side.

3. Brainiac is so hilarious, everything he does is just laughable, he over thinks things but this doesn’t stop him from doing the right thing like in the episode he deletes the alien registry but downloads a copy into his brain.

4. Lena and Supergirl team up to search Lex’s cell and try to figure out what he has planned and how to stop him. We come to find out Lex has a secret lab inside his cell and has been monitoring the DEO holding cells.

5. More importantly, the new Metallo is amazing and looks great. We find out that Otis Graves has been transformed into Metallo but upgraded with a bigger kryptonite heart. We see him explode and releasing a kryptonite gas into the prison to try to infect Supergirl. He gets resurrected at the end of the episode and with more upgrades.

The Bad

The operation and drug that saved James from dying has seemingly effected him and is causing him to see things that is far away but seeing it as if it were right infront of him, he’s hearing things he shouldn’t and we see black veins moving around his body. This is a bad point because it feels like the writers don’t know what to do with the character.

Holy Shit Moment

This weeks Holy Shit Moment is from inside the prison when Otis Graves releases prisoners and offers a lifetime of freedom to whoever captures Supergirl. This leads into a great Punisher type hallway fight scene where Supergirl locks all prisoners inside.

Verdict

Fairly decent episode. Interesting to see how the public are describing Supergirl as a traitor. Great to see Kara utilize her “reporter” side to hide from Otis Graves and find out more info from a prisoner about Lex.

Rating: 7.5/10
