The Mandalorian Chapter 13 “The Jedi” Review

Season 2 Episode 5 “The Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey through a dangerous galaxy.”

What I Liked?

1. The episode starts off with a bunch of soldiers firing at a mystery opponent. We could only see the hooded figure in the background, easily and quickly taking down the soldiers, then we see an ominous glow of two pure white lightsabers. The hooded figure is revealed to be none other than Ahsoka Tano. SHE LOOKS INSANE.

2. Din lands on the planet, picks up Baby Yoda and makes his way into the town where Ahsoka had just been battling. We know nothing about this little town other than it’s a run-down town and ruled by someone who doesn’t care about the people. The rule asks Din to kill the Jedi and in return, he shall receive a staff made from pure Beskar.

3. This isn’t anything to do with the story, characters, or anything. This point is purely for the cinematic feel of the episode. The episode was shot beautifully. Dave Filoni is a master.

4. Din is making his way through a forest with Baby Yoda, he tells Baby Yoda to sit on a rock while he takes a look around, and then Ashoka gets the drop on Din, quickly attacking him with her white lightsabers, Din manages to block her attacks with his armor and tells her he needs her help with Baby Yoda.

5. Ahsoka and Baby Yoda connect through the Force. Ahsoka speaks to Din about Baby Yoda, tells him that his name is Grogu and that he was raised at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. That at the end of the Clone Wars when the Empire started to rise to power, Grogu was taken and hidden. That Grogu had hidden his power so he wouldn’t be found. Ahsoka also mentions that she had only known one other being like him, a wise old master Jedi named Yoda.

6. Ahsoka tries to train Baby Yoda by testing him with a rock, She uses the Force to send a stone to Baby Yoda or Grogu, when he doesn’t send it back and just drops it, Ahsoka tries to use Din to do it, he uses the metal ball from his ship to get Grogu to use the Force to which he does.

7. Ahsoka informs Din that she can not train Grogu because he has much fear in him, while she doesn’t say his name, she mentions that she’s seen what fear can do to a fully trained Jedi Knight, speaking about Anakin in episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. She mentions that she won’t set Grogu down that path.

8. Ahsoka tells Din to take Grogu to an ancient ruined Jedi Temple, that he should place Grogu on the stone, and if he reaches out through the Force, another Jedi will possibly come for him but there is not many Jedi left. She tells Din that Grogu sees him as a father and that he’ll make his own decision.

What I Disliked?

Absolutely nothing.

Favorite Moment

Ahsoka and Din decide to work together to take down Morgan Elsbeth because they won’t see a Mandalorian and Jedi working together. Ahsoka quickly takes down many of her soldiers while Din frees the prisoners. Ahsoka destroys an assassin droid and goes to battle Morgan.

The fight between Ahsoka and Morgan is pretty even until Ahsoka loses one of her sabers in the water and she then flips her last saber backward, this is a common thing for Ahsoka, this is when she’s truly mad. Ahsoka gets the best of Morgan and asks where is her master, where is Grand Admiral Thrawne.

Standout Character

It’s got to be Ahsoka Tano. It was her live-action debut and she truly showcased her talent, it literally felt like the animated version.

The Verdict

This episode was pure greatness. It literally felt like an episode from an Ahsoka arc in the Clone Wars. It was perfect. Rosario Dawson killed it as Ahsoka Tano. The backstory for Baby Yoda aka Grogu was amazing and tied with the prequel movies. The mention of Grand Admiral Thrawne was unexpected but exciting.

Rating: 10/10
