Pennyworth “The Belt and The Welt” Review

Season 2 Episode 3 “Alfred, Bazza and Daveboy try to uncover who had the nerve to steal from them, while Crowley enacts his plan with unintended results.”

What I Liked?

1. We get a look at the city of London, There is fires, bombs flying around, and people running for cover, A bomb lands in front of Alfred’s house and blows out his window, he awakens to see a hallucination of his dad in his room.

2. Alfred is searching for the people who were willing to steal money from Alfred, Bazza, and Dave Boy, he goes to visit a soldier who would do so, when this turns out to be a bad lead, he returns to the club where Dave Boy comes clean and mentions that he spoke about the money when he was drunk, we learn from the bartender that Vick the gypsy bought her a new ring.

3. Bet rings Lord Harvey and he mentions that she needs to learn to control her anger, when people come to pick her up they start shooting the place up. I liked this scene, I just don’t know what is happening with Bet.

4. Alfred and the boys go to the fairground to retrieve the money, when they get there they see people so Dave Boy opens fire straight away while Alfred chases Vick into a hall of mirrors ride and a fight breaks out, Alfred ends up smashing Vick through mirrors until Alfred’s leg goes through the floor and gets stuck. Vick goes to stab him but Alfred uses a piece of glass to stab Vick in the neck.

5. Vick goes to the car where the bartender is, he ends up dying from the stab wound, Alfred and the boys arrive while the bartender steals the money and car and drives away but swerves to miss Bazza, the trio run after the car but it crashes and explodes, Bazza falls the ground, seriously injured, the boys see that his guts are hanging out, after the last speech, Bazza dies. This is what got me this episode.

What I Disliked?

1. The creepy Crowley character, I just can not start to like him, he’s weird and annoying.

2. Another slow build to the episode which was quite annoying as well. Slightly disappointing.

Favorite Moment

Even though the ending was emotionally amazing, I have to give my favorite moment to Martha Kent when she confronted Thomas Wayne about the death of the Prime Minister. The emotion and tone in her voice were perfect for that scene.

Standout character

Has to be Bazza, was loyal until the very end, what a character he was.

The Verdict

Went into this episode expecting a long-drawn-out episode, didn’t expect to get emotionally invested in the end. While the episode was slow, the build-up and emotional end were perfect, a fitting end to a great character.
